A Message from the President
Happy New Year, all! While we are at the midpoint of an exciting year of Club programs and activities, we are at the start of a new chapter in our 104-year history. Your Board has voted to add a part-time Executive Administrator to handle some specific tasks that have demanded so much of the officers, particularly the President and Directors of Communications and Membership. This decision was absolutely necessary to ensure the sustainability of our Club.
|
|
With the assistance of key administrators of the University, we anticipate having that assistance in the near future. Our board positions will become much more attractive, allowing board members to focus on strategic direction and planning of our educational programs and service activities. We see an Executive Administrator as a vital part of building organizational memory in the Club so that officers of the Club can move on and off the board freely. The executive board will spend the balance of the 2014-2015 year orienting our new administrator to the history, procedures, and administrative work of the Club.
For the upcoming Club year, we will raise our membership contribution and add additional membership levels to support this new way of operating.
Member $ 60
Sustaining Member $125
Sponsoring Member $250
Benefactor Member $500 and above
We, like you, want the Club to remain vibrant during our second century of learning, giving, and living. The new membership contribution and levels of membership will support the operating budget and help ensure the long-term viability of the Club. It will also support the board's effort, at the end of each year, to make a meaningful contribution to the Club's Centennial Scholarship endowment.
The Bylaws Committee will draft needed changes for a membership vote at the April Arts luncheon. We look forward to your continued enjoyment of our activities with your friends. We have ongoing efforts to recruit and retain members and ask your continued willingness to invite and bring guests who might like to join us.

Dearest Woman's Club of Washington University,
My name is Kerica L. Williams, and I want to sincerely thank you for your very gracious gift you have bestowed upon me by funding a portion of my financial assistance package which I am receiving this year. By doing so, I am able to continue my education at Washington University and obtain a higher education.
When I heard I was nominated and ultimately chosen, tears began flowing down my face, as I have never received anything of the sort while at Wash U, and I knew this was a blessing! Words of my sincerest gratitude will never be able to express the appreciation I feel to have this blessing and opportunity to continue on with my education without worrying about how I am going to make it through another semester/year. I'm a single mom to a 12˝ year old son who looks up to me and is proud of this accomplishment. From the bottom of our hearts, my son and I thank you!

"Familial Hypercholesterolemia: It's Relative"
One form of inherited high cholesterol is familial hypercholesterolemia (FH), which commonly is under diagnosed and undertreated. It affects one in 200 people and causes high levels of LDL cholesterol, the "bad" cholesterol, from birth. Years of high cholesterol levels lead to blockages in the coronary arteries that supply the heart and the carotid arteries that supply the brain. Buildup of plaque in those arteries leads to heart attacks and strokes.
