THE UPSTATE BUS TOUR... GETTING TO KNOW OUR NEIGHBORS
PICKENS COUNTY,

APRIL 20TH
Presented by:

In 2015, TATT traveled to Greenwood, Union, Laurens, and Oconee Counties. Participants spent each day immersed in the county learning about economic development, community culture, education, and interacted with county leadership.

So, you don't miss the first stop of 2016 to Pickens County on Wednesday, April 20th.

A busy day in Pickens will include the JB "Red" Owens Sports Complex, walking tours of downtown Easley and Pickens highlighting the Old Market Square, the Outdoor Amphitheater, the Doodle Trail, the new Business Incubator and a tour of Hagood Mill. There will be several discussions and tours of the booming economy throughout the county with presentations from elected officials, business and community leaders. Participants will enjoy lunch prepared by students at the Pickens County Career & Technology Center. And a day spent in Pickens County would not be complete without highlighting the valuable education assets of Southern Wesleyan University and Clemson University.

Each session will feature three groups providing a five-minute overview of their initiative followed by a 20-30 minute facilitated question/answer session. Groups interested in being considered should complete the brief proposal form outlining the effort they will highlight.

THE PIQUE:
YOUNG PROFESSIONALS ELEVATING THE UPSTATE
"How can I make an impact as a young professional?" That important question was asked and answered during the PIQUE on March 7th.

"It's all about attitude of service," said Todd Horne, Vice President of Clayton Construction Company, to a crowd of more than 280 young professionals during the PIQUE: Young Leaders Elevating the Upstate, an inaugural event hosted by Ten at the Top in downtown Greenville. "If you give something all you've got, it doesn't matter how much experience you have... young professionals have a right to be at the table."

The population of young professionals (ages 18-39) in the Upstate of South Carolina is growing at a rapid rate and it is important for our generation to gather regularly, share ideas, and discuss how to work together as we become the future leaders of the region. The PIQUE included personal and professional development workshops, networking opportunities with seasoned executives, and discussions on the impact we can make in our communities now.

The Upstate is home to numerous organized young professional groups that are dedicated to fostering innovative ideas and the desire to be engaged personally and professionally. The PIQUE intentionally brought those groups together to help build relationships and begin the dialogue on how young professionals can collectively make a difference across the Upstate both today and into the future.

Stay tuned for more details for #thePIQUE17. If you are interested in being a part of the planning committee, contact Ashley Downing.

2016 OUR UPSTATE VISION FORUM
"THE UPSTATE'S UNTAPPED WORKFORCE"
TUESDAY, APRIL 26th
With a growing economy, the Upstate region is now facing the potential reality of not having enough of an available workforce to meet employee needs. This dilemma calls for collaborative efforts to ensure that some of the previously untapped and underutilized groups of potential employees are identified and engaged. These include veterans, individuals with some type of disability, and people with nonviolent criminal backgrounds.

The Our Upstate Vision Forum will look at how the Upstate can and is working to tap into this important labor pool. The primary focus will be on individuals with disabilities. There will also be representatives from multiple underutilized workforce groups in attendance and available to provide
material on the various workforce opportunities currently available in the Upstate.

Keynote Speaker, Randy Lewis, former Senior Vice President of Logistics and Supply Chain of Walgreens lead this revolutionary model of employment inclusion. Lewis will discuss why Walgreens is viewed by many as the global leader in hiring people with disabilities.

"We just finished celebrating "International Month" here in the Upstate. While our region has an international flavor all year round, the special designation every March helps remind us that one of our greatest strengths is that we are a place where people with different backgrounds, cultures and philosophies can come together to build a special place to live, learn, do business and raise a family..."
