Building on the successful 2014 Upstate Regional Summit: Re-Checking Our Reality, Ten at the Top is pleased to announce its 2016 Upstate Regional Summit - "Creating a Leading Region" - will take place on Tuesday, Sept. 13 at the TD Convention Center. UPSTATE REGIONAL VISION FORUM: UNTAPPED WORKFORCE FEATURING, RANDY LEWIS
SAVE THE DATE - APRIL 26TH
In collaboration with Greenville CAN and and other organizations, we are excited to announce that Randy Lewis, former vice president of Walgreens, will serve as the keynote speaker for the first Upstate Vision Forum of the year on April 26th.

The forum will include presentations on untapped workforce groups that are often times overlooked in the job market.

Lewis will focus on individuals with disabilities as a large work group that is regularly unrecognized. As the former vice president of Walgreens in Anderson, Lewis worked to implement a program that has succeeded in hiring individuals with disabilities, giving them an equal opportunity to work and contribute to society. Lewis now travels the world, speaking to companies and organizations on how to implement the same processes and find success.

Mark your calendars for April 26th, registration coming soon!
CHILD WELL-BEING NETWORK WORKGROUPS
Throughout the month of January four Upstate Child Well-Being Network workgroups have been meeting to look at specific barriers and opportunities for Upstate children:
  • During the health workgroup meeting attendees discussed: gaps in treatment for children with mental health issues, obesity, and the barriers of universal screening. Many children are never screened for developmental disabilities and are therefore never treated.
  • During the family engagement workgroup meeting attendees discussed the positive impact of integrated service models and system navigators. A referral system that allows clients to be seen in a timely manner was also discussed.
  • During the housing workgroup meeting attendees discussed the need for more affordable housing, including rehab housing. Some barriers to affordable housing discussed included: the requirement to pass a background check, gaps in housing assistance programs, and the lack of builders willing to build low income housing.
  • During the substance abuse prevention workgroup meeting attendees discussed the impact marijuana legalization would have on prevention organizations. Attendees also discussed e-cigarettes and a goal to have them included in smoke free policies across the Upstate. Prescription drug and opiate drug abuse were also discussed.
Notes from each of the meetings mentioned above can be found under the 'Human Potential' tab on www.tenatthetop.org. The workgroups will be meeting again in throughout March and April to further their goal of ensuring all Upstate children have optimal opportunities for success.
