2012 Forum 4 Be sure to register today for the final Our Upstate Vision Forum of 2012, which will be held on Thursday, November 15th, from 2:30-5 pm (reception to follow) at the Greenville Tech Auditorium. 

 

After spending the first three Our Upstate Vision Forums of the year discussing some of the key issues facing the Upstate as we look toward future growth in the region, the final Our Upstate Vision Forum of 2012 will be a celebration of some of the great things currently being done by businesses, organizations and local communities across South Carolina's Upstate.

 

The forum will include recognition of companies, organizations and programs celebrating milestone anniversaries in 2012. Also being highlighted during the event will be organizations or initiatives that are having significant impact across the region in the five driver areas of the Our Upstate Vision.

Serving as the keynote speaker will be nationally recognized author and speaker Tommy Spaulding. Author of the bestselling book It's Not Just Who You Know, Spaulding has been recognized by Meetings & Conventions Magazine as one of the best personal development speakers in the country.

 

 The forum is free and open to the public, but we ask that you please register in advance.

 

 

EMPLOYMENT OPPORTUNITIES WITH TEN AT THE TOP       

TATT Regional Vision Summit
Ten at the Top is now accepting applications for a pair of full-time positions. TATT is hiring a Program Manager and a Communications Manager with a desired start date for both positions of January 2, 2013.

Interested candidates can learn more about the positions by downloading the full job descriptions. Applications, including a cover letter, resume, writing and web site samples are being accepted through November 16th.

ITRON CELEBRATES 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF WEST UNION FACILITY     

Itron Anniversary
Itron recognized the 50th anniversary of their West Union facility in Oconee County with a special celebration on October 12th. Included in the program were remarks by South Carolina Senator Lindsey Graham.

Originally opened in 1962 manufacturing the J3 meter for Sangamo Electric Company, the facility was acquired by Schlumberger in 1975 and by Itron in 2004.

For the past 50 years, the Oconee facility has been instrumental in developing and refining ground-breaking energy management technologies. From smart meters to collection devices, the products manufactured at the facility are among the key components required to create a smarter grid and provide customers with the tools needed for a smart energy future.

PENDLETON PLACE BENEFIT BREAKFAST NOVEMBER 15TH
Pendleton Place

Pendleton Place Children's Shelter is a place of safety and comfort for children who have been hurt by abuse, neglect, or abandonment. Since its founding in 1975, Pendleton Place has been filling an important need in the Upstate community by providing a safe, warm place for children and youth who have been removed from their homes by the Department of Social Services. They provide food, clothing, warm beds, nurturing care, mental health services, quality medical care, and more to help hurting children begin the healing process.

Please save the date for Pendleton Place's 3rd annual Benefit Breakfast on November 15th , 7:30 - 8:30AM! Held at the TD Convention Center, there is no cost to attend this event and we guarantee you won't want to miss it. Join us as we unveil Pendleton Place's response to South Carolina's changing child welfare system and our role with children & families. We'll also be introducing some exciting new programs during the hour!

 

For the event Pendleton Place still needs more table hosts and corporate sponsors. There is no cost to host a table - just invite philanthropic folks to join you at the event. JUNIOR LEAGUE OF SPARTANBURG TO HOST ANNUAL SANTA'S SHOPPE NOVEMBER 8-11   

Spartanburg Junior League The public is invited to start their Holiday shopping early with the Junior League of Spartanburg's 24th  Annual Santa's Shoppe, November 8-11 at the Spartanburg Memorial Auditorium in Downtown Spartanburg.   

Santa's Shoppe 2012 will kick off with Santa's Soirée on Thursday, November 8, 2012.  Santa's Soirée is a cocktail event including local food, shopping, live and silent auctions, live music, featuring The Coconut Groove Band, and more! Tickets are $40 per person or $75 per couple and the event will begin at 7pm.

Shopping begins with Shop 'til You Drop on Friday, November 9, and continues through Sunday, November 11th.  Tickets are $5 in advance and $7 at the door.  Tickets can be purchased in advance from the League Office, any JLS member, select retail locations in the area or online at www.jlspartanburg.org.  Doors will be open from 9am-5pm, Friday and Saturday and 12pm-5pm on Sunday.  This year's Shop 'til You Drop event will feature more than 60 specialty merchants and boutiques.   


 

SOUTH CAROLINA ARTS COMMISSION ACCEPTING NOMINATIONS FOR THE  

ELIZABETH O'NEILL VERNER AWARDS   

SC Arts Commission The South Carolina Arts Commission is now accepting nominations for the Elizabeth O'Neill Verner Awards, which recognize achievement in the following of categories.

ARTS IN EDUCATION - open to SC individuals and/or institutions whose primary function is arts education. May include: arts educators (teachers, consultants, principals, administrators), schools, school districts, college/university arts departments, etc.
    
ORGANIZATION - open to SC organizations who contribute to the advancement and/or support of the arts. May include: arts discipline organizations, arts councils, arts advocacy groups, guilds, arts departments of organizations, educational institutions, etc.
    
GOVERNMENT - open to SC individuals and/or institutions generally described as a unit of state, local, county, or municipal government, elected/appointed officials.
    
BUSINESS/FOUNDATION - open to SC individuals or companies/foundations whose participation, support, and/or contributions have benefited the maintenance and growth of the arts.
    
INDIVIDUAL - open to SC individuals who have demonstrated exceptional achievement and statewide impact through their leadership, support, and advancement of the arts. May include: arts professionals such as managers, administrators; arts supporters such as patrons, promoters, donors, etc.
    
INDIVIDUAL ARTIST - open to SC artists of exceptional talent and creativity, in any discipline, whose contribution to the arts has helped guide and influence directions, trends and aesthetic practices across the state or to national or international levels.

SOUTH CAROLINA HISPANIC CHAMBER GALA SET FOR DECEMBER 14TH

The South Carolina Hispanic Chamber of Commerce is proud to present the 4th Annual Corporate Gala, which will be held on Friday, December 14, 2012, at the Embassy Suites in Greenville.  

 

This year's Gala promises to be unique as we celebrate the Chamber's 5th year of serving the business community in South Carolina.  

 

As a way of reflecting on the Chamber's past five years, the Chamber is dedicating this year's Gala to the theme of "Giving Back: Serving and investing in our communities." By making this theme the focus of this year's Gala, the Chamber hopes to express its gratitude to the community that has played an integral part in the growth of the Chamber.

 

The Gala will include a toy drive that will benefit a local charity. A toy for the toy drive can be your ticket to the Gala: The first 50 active Chamber members to donate a toy to our toy drive will be eligible to receive one complimentary ticket to the Gala when a second ticket is purchased.Contact Ramón Nieves at (787) 431-0071 to donate toys for the toy drive.

UPSTATE INFORMATION HUB HIGHLIGHTS SPECIAL PLACES, EVENTS AND RESOURCES
Fall 2012 Festivals in Upstate SC

 

The Upstate Information Hub continues to offer a "one-stop" location to find links to resources and events from across the Upstate.

Overall, the Information Hub has listings of hundreds of local calendar events and
more than a thousand local community resources from across the 10 counties of South Carolina's Upstate.

In addition to the events and resources available on the web site, you can also sign up for the weekly "Uniquely Upstate" e-newsletter, which highlights the "hot events" happening across the region that weekend and also includes a feature story that showcases something unique about the Upstate.

Recent feature stories include a look at South Carolina Century Farms, Fall activities in the Upstate, Lockhart Power's 100 Trees for 100 Years Program, and the 50th Anniversary of Itron's Oconee Facility.

The TATT newsletter is typically distributed the first Monday of each month (except for when there is a holiday) to more than 6,500 residents across the Upstate. The deadline for submitting information is the Thursday prior to the first Monday of the month.
