CLEAN WATER ACT NETWORK
LIVES AGAIN!

Amigos Bravos joined environmental groups across the country last week to announce the revival of the Clean Water Network, a national network of non-profit organizations working to protect rivers, lakes, and wetlands across America.

The Clean Water Network hosts webinars and provides its members with training, policy expertise, and a forum for coordinating grassroots outreach.

Originally founded in 1992, the Clean Water Network (CWN) will be housed under Environment America Research & Policy Center and guided by an Advisory Board representing a range of local and national  clean water groups and diverse regions of the country. Amigos Bravos is one of six members on the CWN National Advisory Board.

"The Clean Water Network (CWN) provides essential support to watershed groups across the country," explained Amigos Bravos Projects Director, Rachel Conn. "Here in New Mexico, we count on the Network to provide us with eyes and ears on the ground in the nation's capital. Amigos Bravos is excited to see the Clean Water Network relaunch, as the services provided by the Network augment our efforts to help communities protect rivers and streams in New Mexico."

Conn was a member of the Clean Water Network Advisory Board between 2006-2012, during its previous incarnation, and served as a Co-Vice President of the Executive Committee.

AMIGOS BRAVOS HIRES WATER/ENERGY NEXUS CONSULTANT

Amigos Bravos is delighted to welcome Megan Anderson O'Reilly to the Amigos Bravos team!

Megan will research and quantify, for Amigos Bravos, which energy sources have the biggest negative impact on New Mexico's water. She'll also be quantifying, to the extent possible, how much water individual industries appropriate, consume, and pollute.

In addition, Megan will research and quantify how much energy is used to manage and transport water in New Mexico. She'll then produce a report on New Mexico's water/energy nexus that details the quantity of water used in energy production and the amount of energy used in managing and transporting water.

With the above information, Megan and the Amigos Bravos staff will develop a set of "New Mexico Water/Energy Principals" to be used by Amigos Bravos when analyzing policy priorities, regulatory proposals, and municipal and industrial developments.

Megan and the Amigos Bravos Staff and Board of Directors will also develop a set of policy recommendations for implementing those Principals at the national, state, and local levels.

The water/energy nexus in New Mexico was at the top of the list of concerns voiced by members of the Amigos Bravos Advisory Council a year and a half ago, at Ghost Ranch, during the development of the current Amigos Bravos Five Year Strategic Plan.We are excited to be moving forward with that work, now.

Megan Anderson O'Reilly is an environmental lawyer whose past experience includes serving as Staff Attorney, for seven years, and Director of the Climate and Energy Program, for two years, for the Western Environmental Law Center.
