Greetings!
May's meeting: It's lure making time. This year we will be working on our painting skills. Wade from Wades Wobbler will have a bunch of primed Wobblers for us to paint our own color schemes. After our paint jobs are done the lures will need to have a top coat applied to preserve the paint and to provide a nice shine to the lure. People will have their choice of taking the lure home to apply a top coat or have Wade take them and apply the coat. We will then have a lure making part 2 at the June meeting to add all the hardware to finish the lure and make it ready to snap on the leader.
Also on tap we will be discussing what went on at the MI Annual Spring Board meeting. Lots to discuss for sure.

Brainerd Parks and Rec Youth Fishing Clinic
Saturday, June 1 at Lum Park. 10am - 2pm. Food, activities and prizes. This event has been going on for over 35 years and it's a great event for the kids to attend. There are multiple fishing stations for kids to participate in. Everything from how to clean fish to boat safety. There is also a fishing contest on the shores of Rice Lake. The event is free!
Outdoor Youth Expo
Saturday, June 8 at the Lakeshore Conservation Club. 10am - 2:30pm. Food, activities and prizes. This event is in it's 5th year and has been a great success. Kids get to participate in many outdoor sporting activities including: trap shooting, archery, duck/goose calling, bluebird house building and tons more. This is a free event and great time for the kids!
BLC Youth Day
Saturday, August 24 at Camp Vanasek. This the revised youth night that the BLC has done for a long time. Many activities are planned including lure making, a fishing contest and games. There will be food and prizes to be won. Stay tuned for further details!

So far the BLC has 2 teams ready for the Hamm. We are looking for more people to form more teams. September 18-20 are the dates with Spring Bay Resort on Lake Vermilion is the host resort. Muskie Netting
With the very late ice out conditions we are having the muskie trap netting survey has been delayed. The trap nets will still go out on Leech, Shamineau and Mille Lacs as soon as the ice is off. Greg Kvale has a sign up sheet, which some of you may have already put your name on, but there still is room for you to assist the DNR pulling muskie nets. Contact Greg to get on the list. Some forms will need to be filled out prior to anyone assisting with the DNR with any projects including fish trap netting.
