Nicholas Dirks After months of meetings and preparation, Nicholas Dirks arrived for work June 3 as Berkeley's 10th chancellor. On a day that was all about connections, he received a warm welcome from staff in California Hall, and a loud serenade from the Cal Marching Band. One of his first official acts was to make a video introducing himself to the campus, saying he's thrilled to be here and "I expect to hear from you."

Katie Dustin
Katie Dustin is a ninja of simplifying complex processes, as a business analyst in Student Affairs Information Technologies. Her advice on starting a complex project is to "start small and get a quick win." For exemplifying one of UC Berkeley's operating principles, Dustin has won a "Kudo of the Month."
