Ritankar Das,18, a double major in bioengineering and chemical biology, is the youngest University Medalist in more than a century. He is graduating from UC Berkeley in only three years with more than 200 credits and a GPA of 3.99. The medal is given each year to the top graduating senior.

"The day I got my first bike, my life changed completely," says Chris Ategeka, an AIDS orphan from East Africa who has found success at UC Berkeley as an engineer, inventor and social entrepreneur. His student-led startup CA Bikes is distributing free bikes in rural Uganda, and a second venture is working on an HIV early-detection kit that could be deployed across Africa.
