A NOTE FROM MARTY McCORMACK
|
Dear Switchback Fans,
May 11 is the release party for our 13th album, Kanoka. We're hoping that we can get everyone to come out to the show at the Mayne Stage in Chicago. We have rented a bus to bring in folks from Kansas, Iowa, Minnesota and Wisconsin. We have folks driving in from Ohio and Michigan, and some flying in from faraway places! Our sincerest wish is that you will choose to come and help us celebrate the release of this very important album. We've said before and we mean it, our success depends upon our fans and their willingness to share and communicate with other people the music of Switchback. We are going to make this a great night, but it will be even better if you are there!

THE AMERICAN SOUNDSCAPE OF SWITCHBACK'S JOURNEY TO KANOKA Ron Pen, director John Jacob Niles Center for American Music University of Kentucky |
|
There is always a moment of anticipation, suspense, and joy as one tears the plastic sheath off a new CD, opens the jewel case, pops the disc out of the restraining center fingers, and slips the recording into the sliding tray of the player. It is an unconscious ritual recreation of your favorite birthday present being unwrapped-- a magical moment as living music emerges from inanimate machine. That pristine plastic disc suddenly sings in vivid aural hues.

Nicholas S: My personal reflection upon listening to "Kanoka." Fantastic: You took me on a musical journey through the landscape of America's frontier. I closed my eyes and felt like you transported me lyrically to a time and place that is real, but I've yet to experience. Musically, it was pristine; lyrically, it was digital art; storytelling, it was holistic, and purely entertaining.
Beth K: I love the groove on Pour Me...although ALL the the tunes are great! Amazing writing!
Sheila W: How three people and a few instruments can make so much good music would be unknown to me if I had not had the pleasure of being in your audience on Friday night. That's a long way of saying I remain impressed by your talent. The sound guy said you were easy to work with. That he could tell you were professional because you were so calm about everything.
Cindy S: It was a great concert!! Thank you for being so talented.
Marie D: Marty, Thanks so much for your kind phone message and the gift of your CD! My 4 year-old keeps requesting it in the car, and even brought it to his preschool to share with everyone! I will definitely try to make your release party in May. Thanks again!! Good luck with the release.
Jeremy and Kelcey M: You guys are FANTASTIC! Thanks so much for coming to the Pearson Lakes Art Center and Northwest Iowa! Really enjoyed it! Good luck to you in everything you do! Hope you see you guys again soon!
Luwana E: Can't wait till the 18th of May when I get to go see you guys at the Egyptian Theater in DeKalb. Want to buy some CDs so I can play them for my friends, not to mention me.
Jan H: Shades of Switchback on ACM Awards ... Brian, did you teach Keith Urban guitar?!
