Worship Sunday November 1
All Saints Sunday

Jesus, may have made it look easy, but there is nothing easy - or simple -  about making the dead live again. By the grace of God we are returned to life, now how do we live the resurrection?

Ezekiel 37:11-14 and 1 Corinthians 15:50-57 are the scriptures. Melanie Marsh Baum continues with Core Stories of the Bible #8:"The Resurrection Life."
The Lay Worship Leader is Anne Wombwell deConingh. Sunday's bulletin is generally at CovenantWeb.org on Fridays.

This Sunday the children will remain in the worship service. Children's bulletins will be available from the ushers. The Crche for infants and children through pre-kindergarten age is open from 9:30am to 12:30pm. Talk with Mindy Stewart about opportunities for youth and families and Kaori Hongo about children's choir.

Save the Date: Sunday, November 8 at 6:00pm,
for the ordination service of our very own Associate Pastor, Melanie Marsh Baum. A reception to offer congratulations to Melanie will follow.

Music Notes
Our music this Sunday celebrates the feast of All Saints,
focusing on the theme of resurrection. The choir sings Charles Villiers Stanford's (1852-1924) stirring anthem, "Ye Choirs of New Jerusalem" (traditionally an Easter anthem). The text is by the medieval Bishop of Chartres Cathedral, Fulbert of Chartres (c.952-1028). The original Latin text was translated into English by Robert Campbell, in Hymns and Anthems (1850). The text implores the eternal choirs of saints in heaven to praise the triumph of Jesus over death. The prelude, Improvisation sur le "Te Deum," is by French composer, Charles Tournemire (1870-1929). Written originally as a hymn of praise extoling the deity of Jesus, its text is particularly appropriate for All Saints: "The glorious company of the Apostles: praise thee. The goodly fellowship of the Prophets: praise thee. The noble army of Martyrs: praise thee. The holy Church throughout all the world doth acknowledge thee." Tournemire originally improvised the Te Deum for a recording, from which the composer Maurice Durufl painstakingly reconstructed the work into notation.

Stephen Ministry Program welcomes new Stephen Minister
Sergey Ostrovskiy was welcomed as a member of our congregation on Wednesday, October 28, by Session.  He trained as a Stephen Minister at McCord Road Christian Church, in Sylvania, Ohio.  Having expressed an interest in participating in the Covenant's Stephen Ministry Program, we invited him to join us.

Sergey is a social work graduate student at CWRU's Mandel School of Applied Social Sciences, having completed his undergraduate degree at Lourdes University in Sylvania, Ohio.  He recently completed a social work internship at the Toledo Correctional Institution, a maximum security prison in Toledo.  Sergey and his family moved to Cincinnati in 2002 from the Ukraine.

Stephen Ministers are church members trained to support individuals who are facing difficulties and would like a caring Christian presence during their challenging times. Stephen Ministers are available in Christ Chapel each Sunday following worship.  If you would like to learn about Stephen Ministry or would like to talk with a Stephen Minister, contact Carrie Stewart at carriestewart@juno.com or Cindy Szafraniec at cynthia.szafraniec@gmail.comStephen Leaders.

without Peace, there can be no Hope.
Happy Birthday from the Deacons
Many thanks to the Deacons for helping us celebrate our birthdays each month during our time of Coffee and Fellowship. This month's cake was a beautiful - and tasty - reflection of fall.

Our Deacons are indeed helping us care for one another through Covenant Callers, Stephen Ministers, and the ministry of Sunday flower delivery, including to patients across the street.

The Deacons also share Christmas gifts and Easter flowers with our home-bound who are unable to attend church, and create a festive holiday lunch for seniors at the Goodrich-Gannett Neighborhood Center when they share the Giving Tree gifts from the Covenant community.

You do not have to be a Deacon to be a part of these ministries. Contact Marjorie Heines, moderator, at heines57@aol.com.
Our Lower Level Task Force has been busy!
To paraphrase Ed Sullivan, "this is a r-e-a-l-l-y big, big project." We have to do right so things are taking time and although we have been quiet, we have been working!

Beyond the remodeling of a prime space within the Church complex that is worn-out; we have a vision of well thought-out, functional and well-executed space driven by a perspective of service and inclusion both within the Church and within the community.

What Would the New Capacities of a Remodeled Lower Level Empower Us to Do?
  • Enhance the Saturday Morning Tutoring, Twelve Step, Student Brunch, Cache and existing congregational social activities
  • Offer the ability to have pre-service brunch and after service lunch for families
  • Provide a setting for an theological/educational/medical dialogue
  • Open our facility as a full meeting resource for the Presbytery and community organizations
  • Provide alternative worship, education and social venues that are inviting to the disenfranchised, seekers and the so-called "nones" (those who claim no religious affiliation) - especially young adults
  • Fund raise through pancake breakfasts, fish fries, and the like as well as via room rental fees
  • Participate in quality food-based ministries which can include student or community social events, Meals on Wheels, Food Truck Ministry and preparation of meals for the hungry
  • Foster lectures and programs in the arenas of Medical Ethics, Social Justice and Spiritual Living (Inter-religious and Ecumenical Faith Expressions such as centering, Yoga and Buddhist-Christian explorations)
  • Provide a convenient and functional venue for christening, funeral and economical wedding gatherings
Stay tuned!
