"...the Orfeo of the cornetto..."
Tibia, Germany

"The plangent eloquence and dare-devil bravura of Bruce Dickey's
cornetto playing would charm the skin off a snake."
BBC Music Magazine

What is the cornetto, you ask?

The cornett, cornetto, or zink is an early wind instrument that dates from the MedievalRenaissance and Baroque periods, popular from 1500-1650. It was used in what are now called alta capellas or wind ensembles often in combination with sackbuts. It is not to be confused with the trumpet-like cornetThe sound of the cornetto is produced by lip vibrations against a cup mouthpiece. It consists of a conical wooden pipe covered in leather, about 24 inches long, and has finger holes and a small horn or ivory mouthpiece.

Bruce Dickey is considered one of the world's leading experts in playing this extremely difficult instrument. Dickey and Tamminga are presenting programs at Wellesle College, Holy Cross College, Yale University, Oberlin College, and the Church of the Covenant.
