Service of Worship
Palm Sunday
April 13, 2014
For the worship of God on Palm Sunday, April 13, Dr. Campbell continues his Lenten sermon series, People of the Way, with his sermon titled "Responsibility." Scripture lessons are Mark 11:1-10; Mark 14:53-54, 66-72; and Matthew 27:3-5. The Lay Worship Leader is Ann Harland. We receive the One Great Hour of Sharing offering and remember those impacted by gun violence.
Each Sunday one of our Stephen Ministers remains in Christ Chapel following worship to speak with anyone who needs a listening ear or a prayer.
Midweek Music & Meditation, Wednesdays, 4:30-5 pm This service is offered for anyone who would find comfort in a time of reflection, music, and prayer. Prayer requests placed in The Carpenter's Box on the Christ Chapel table are included in each Midweek Music and Meditation time of prayer.

This week we keep in our prayers Clara Dunay, Angela Laylin Koch, Erik Kratky, Rolf Krotseng, Marjorie Wadsworth, and other Covenant members and friends who are struggling with illness, convalescing, or are homebound.
Bear one another's burdens,
and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Music Notes
Music for our Palm Sunday service observes both the celebratory and ominous aspects of Jesus' entry into Jerusalem. We welcome both the Beckwith Handbell Choir and the children of the Chapel and Psalter Choirs in the opening prelude and processional hymn. Two psalms used for the introit and responsorial psalm present the Old Testament connection to the events of Palm Sunday: Psalm 24, "Open to me the gates of righteousness, and the king shall enter in;" and Psalm 118, "On this day the Lord has acted, we will rejoice and be glad in it." For the offertory the choir sings Gerald Finzi's (1901-1956) rhapsodic anthem Welcome Sweet and Sacred Feast, the text of which is by the 17th century Welsh metaphysical poet Henry Vaughan (1621-1695). Our service concludes with a dramatic Praeludium in g minor by Dieterich Buxtehude (c.1637-1707).
