Third Sunday in Lent
10 AM
March 23, 2014

For the Worship of God on Sunday, March 23, Dr. Campbell continues a Lenten series,
People of the Way. His sermon is titled, "Sons of Thunder, Apostles of Love." The scripture lessons are Luke 9:51-55 and Mark 9:33-41. The Lay Worship Leader is Jim Tomaszewski.

Each Sunday one of our Stephen Ministers remains in Christ Chapel following worship to speak with anyone who needs a listening ear or a prayer.

Midweek Music & Meditation, Wednesdays, 4:30-5 pm
This service is offered for anyone who would find comfort in a time of reflection, music, and prayer. Prayer requests placed in The Carpenter's Box on the Christ Chapel table are included in each Midweek Music and Meditation time of prayer.
In the Covenant Family

This week we keep in our prayers Mary Carter, Erik Kratky, Christian Steppes, Kim Voss, Marjorie Wadsworth, Theresa Hayes and other Covenant members and friends who are struggling with illness, convalescing, or are homebound.

The sympathy of the congregation is extended to Gene and Diane Papp and their families on the death of cousin Judy Sabo.

Bear one another's burdens, and in this way you will fulfill the law of Christ.

Going Out and Coming In: The Exodus Journey

Rabbi Roger Klein, PhD.

The Book of Exodus is arguably the Bible's most consequential text. It features a powerful trajectory from slavery to freedom to revelation at Mt. Sinai to the building of the Tabernacle in the wilderness, with a fascinating detour through the incident of the Golden Calf. What does the biblical author have in mind with this story? What are the central - and universal and abiding - values and aspirations featured in this material? Having been expelled from the Garden of Eden, does the author present an alternative version of Home and the possibility of our return to tranquility and safety?

Rabbi Roger Klein serves the congregation of The Temple Tifereth Israel, focusing on adult learning programs, walking with families through life-cycle events, and cultivating relationships with other religious and educational institutions.

Also mailed with the March/April Covenant News and available in the kiosks.
Music Notes
We welcome the Beckwith Handbell Choir today, playing an arrangement of the "Lacrimosa" movement from Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart's Requiem Mass for the prelude. Mozart died before completing the Requiem and left only 8 measures of the Lacrimosa. His pupil Franz Xavier Sssmayr completed the work. The choir sings the beloved hymn Lead Kindly Light for the introit. The text written by Cardinal John Henry Newman in 1833 has given comfort to countless people through the decades, including accounts of it being sung on the Titanic and at the Ravensbruck concentration camp during the Holocaust. For the offertory, the choir presents a blues adaption of the spiritual, I Want Jesus to Walk with Me by New York-based composer, Thomas Schmidt.

SCC: Student Community at Covenant

Mission New Jersey

Six hard-working CWRU students spent their Spring Break repairing a house damaged by Superstorm Sandy at the Jersey Shore, accompanied by Rev. Eileen and our Covenant congregation partner Chip Bromley. We were housed at a Presbyterian Disaster Assistance "Volunteer Village" set up at Eileen's "home church" in Matawan, NJ.  Brandon McCracken, Jane Lu, Krishna Mahadevan, Jong Hyuk Park, Savitka Mikkilineni and Any Shen gave it their all!

On March 14th - 15th, six 4th thru 8th graders (along with some adults)  were "locked-in" the church for 15 hours! They ate dinner together, played games (hide and seek in the dark is always a favorite), created their own movie, watched a movie, eventually fell asleep,  and built some unforgettable memories. Pictured on the right is Savannah doing the Elephant March!

Contact Mindy Stewart, Family Matters Coordinator, at [email protected] for more information about the 4th - 8th Program.

Calling all Covenant Children & Youth
Youth Sunday Is Fast Approaching!

Youth Sunday is the service that the children and youth plan and conduct.  The service is scheduled for Sunday, May 11, 2014.  This year's theme is how we learn about God's love through our relationships.

This Sunday and next Sunday the children and youth will work with their teachers to finish writing their service.  The weeks prior to the service will be used for rehearsal. In order to ensure your child's role in Youth Sunday, they should plan to attend the preparation sessions and rehearsals.

Questions? Talk with Reverend Jonyrma Singleton, Mindy Stewart, Ann Williams or one of the Youth Sunday leaders, Jenny Conner, John Marsh and Jim Tomaszewski.

It's Dancing with (Covenant) Stars!

As reported by Newsnet 5, it's Dancing with the Stars time again, and a local dance studio sees an upturn in students.  As they reported, "Clint Fowler bought lessons for his wife six years ago and they are still going strong. He says, " I am hooked. I am hooked. I know how to make a pretty girl smile."
