Learn how you can help Solarize Kitsap and be a part of our group purchasing program.

What is Solarize Kitsap? A solar photovoltaic (PV) group purchase and installation program available to residents of Port Kitsap County. There is a series of free orientations in early 2013

How much money can I save? Roof-mounted solar installations typically cost $3200- $5500 / kilowatt (kW) after the 30% federal income tax credit. Through group purchasing Power Trip Energy will offer an additional $500-850/kW rebate per customer.

Projects larger than 8 KW can qualify for a free Level II EV Charger with installation.

How do I sign up for Solarize Kitsap? Attend one of our workshops in Kitsap County listed above. You can also call a Power Trip Energy solar agent for a free phone consultation at 360-643-3080 to learn more about solar power and to find out if your home or business is a good solar candidate. Before signing up, all participants must first have a solar evaluation conducted for their site by Power Trip Energy.

Results of Solarizing

We most recently finished up our second round of Solarize Port Townsend and the second round of Solarize Sequim ended in the fall of 2012.  In Port Townsend so far we have installed 183 kw of PV and rebates to our customers totaling close to $100,000 dollars.  Solarize Sequim came in a close 2nd with 106 kw of installed PV and about $70,000 in solarize rebates back to our customers. We are currently in the home stretch of our 2nd Solarize Kitsap having installed 52KW PV and rebates totaling $35,000 in the 2012 Solarize Kitsap.

PUD Adopts State Solar Production Incentive Program

At the March 5, 2013 meeting, Jefferson PUD commissioners formally opted to participate in the Washington State Renewable Energy Production Incentive Program (REPIP). Puget Sound Energy (PSE) has offered this same program and the Jefferson PUD by taking this action ensures the continuation of the program for their Jefferson County customers.

The production incentive program is open to individuals, businesses, or local governments that generate electricity with grid-tied power systems from solar power, wind power or anaerobic digesters and pays an annual cash production incentive of 12¢ to 54¢ per kilowatt-hour. This state program was originally created in 2005 and was expanded in 2008. The overall incentive pool is capped at 0.5% of taxable utility revenue and the incentives are capped individually at $5000 per year. These incentives are in addition to the savings you can achieve through net metering.

Participating utilities make an annual cash payment to the producing customer and earn a tax credit from the State of Washington equal to the cost of those payments. The incentives apply to power generated as of July 1, 2005, and are currently slated to remain in effect through June 30, 2020.

Jefferson PUD customers will need to sign new net metering agreements and production incentive agreements with the Jefferson PUD. Expect to receive these new agreements in the mail from the PUD in the coming months.

For more information about this and other solar financial incentives, please see the "Financial Incentives" page on our web site at
