Welcoming New Leadership!
James Jones, MFP Board of Directors
It is with great excitement that MFP announces it has elected James Jones to our Board of Directors! James brings with him an extraordinary background in non-profit development. Having served as the Development Executive for Seattle's Union Gospel Mission and United Cerebral Palsy, where he was responsible for raising $23 million per year and managing a staff of 20. In addition, James has served on the Board of the National Society of Fundraising Professionals and the Association of Fundraising Professionals. James has also run a consulting firm that helped small to mid-sized non-profits develop strategies and tactics to grow them into larger more equipped agencies.
"I am honored to join the board of directors of an organization such as My Friend's Place, which has both the critical awareness of the overwhelming needs of homeless youth in Hollywood and the staff excellence to provide those services. As a former Executive Development Officer, I am excited about the opportunities for MFP to grow in the upcoming years to provide even more services to those in need and to break the cycle of destructiveness that surround so many of these youths. I believe the 25th anniversary will not only mark the celebration of this excellent service, but will also kickoff a great new chapter for MFP!"

Back-to-School Drive!
As many young people go back to school or enroll in new educational programs, we want to provide them with the resources they need to succeed. You can help inspire and encourage with in-kind support! Sometimes, a new backpack and a fresh set of school supplies can help a young person feel prepared to tackle the new school year or reach their educational goals. Each year, MFP youth are in need of school supplies including: backpacks, notebooks, day planners, lined writing paper, three-ring binders, pens, and pencils.
We can help you organize a Back-to-School Drive at your school, workplace or place of worship. Please consider supporting MFP youth as you shop for supplies for yourself or for your family. You can also make a gift here to help us purchase these supplies for youth.
Please contact Natalie at (323) 908-0011 x101 or email development@myfriendsplace.org for more information.

Kristina Loughery
This month, we're honoring Kristina Loughery, our long-time photographer and friend. Kristina first became involved with MFP when she answered a flyer for a volunteer photographer. It seemed like a perfect opportunity to give back while pursuing her favorite hobby. Kristina notes:
"Living in the heart of Hollywood, I frequently saw many youth living on the streets and often wondered how I could be of help. As a volunteer photographer, seeing youth smile and feel special, if only for a minute, makes it all worthwhile. After being involved for so many years, I feel that MFP is another family to me."
Kristina has shared 13 years of holidays, workshops and events with MFP, but her most memorable experiences are:
"Taking Polaroid's of the youth with Santa during the Holiday Party. They get to take with them a very special keepsake. No matter how hard it is to survive on the streets, for a few minutes, they get to be a kid again."
I hope that more and more people find the compassion to volunteer and donate to MFP's important, imminent needs so they can continue to fight homelessness." She adds, "If you want to feel very blessed and grateful, volunteering at MFP is a very rewarding experience. You will find that you'll keep going back, year after year!"
Staff and youth would like to thank Kristina for being part of the MFP family! We hope you'll continue to share many more traditions and memories with us.
