Wanted- Volunteers
For the Rummage Sale - September 12 and 13.  If you are good dealing with people and money, we need one ( or two) people to head up the check-out table during the Rummage Sale.  The time commitment - roughly 8:30 AM-4:00 PM Friday and/or Saturday of the sale. We can divide up the responsibilities between several people or it can be given to one person who is available both days.

Also, people to assist with setting up electronics, sports, tools, and linens. Also, some to help provide and prepare lunches and/or donate snacks, drinks, and desserts.

August 1 is the start date for bringing in donations during regular office hours.   It is helpful if you separate and label items according to category.  Thank you for your prayerful consideration of ways you can participate in this important ministry at St. Paul.     Contact Liz Jenzen at ejenzen@ameritech.net or 313-882-3986.
Pastor Away
Pastor is away on a conference & vacation and will return July 7.  Worship on Sunday will be led by Doug Jenzen and Bonnie Steketee. Pastoral emergencies will be handled by the Rev. George Oberle of St. Mark Lutheran, Roseville.

In case of a pastoral emergency, death etc, please contact St. Paul church office which will contact Pastor Oberle.  During non-office hours please contact Council President Dave Upmeyer at 313.881.9522
Living the Word
Jesus loves you! That's the message of our VBS experience!

Weird Animals VBS will be hosted at Salem Memorial Lutheran Church from July 14 to 18.  At Weird Animals, kids will learn about some of God's most creative creations! They'll participate in memorable Bible-learning activities, sing catchy songs, play teamwork-building games, make and dig into yummy treats, experience cool Bible adventures, collect Bible Memory Buddies to remind them they are one of a kind, and test out Sciency-Fun Gizmos they'll take home and play with all summer long. Plus, kids will learn to look for evidence of God all around them through something called God Sightings. Each day concludes with The Tail End-a celebration that gets everyone involved in living what they've learned.

Weird Animals VBS is for kids from 3 years to grade 5 and will run from 1 to 3:30 each day. Registration materials are available at St Paul in the narthex.  The suggested donation is $15 per child or $25 per family. VBS Scholarship support is needed.  Donations can be made at the VBS registration table or through the regular offering by indication VBS Scholarship on your check made out to St Paul.  Middle school and High School youth are encouraged to sign up to participate as leaders.  Please contact Dana Miller (313-343-0923) or Mary Mobley (313-885-0529) for more information.

Odds and Ends
Taizé Worship Services: A summer Taizé worship service will take place at St. James Lutheran Church, 170 McMillan, Grosse Pointe Farms, on Wednesday, August 6, at 7 pm.  You are welcome to attend!  The beauty of Taizé worship is that it uses a form of short musical phrases with sing able, easily-memorized melodies.  The community of Taizé in France has worked for unity among Christians in all denominations.  The service will include Holy Communion for those who wish to partake.
LSSM Connection
Camp Ministries
Click here for Zollie's camp experience.
The month of June brings many outdoor activities and celebrations!  Our partnership with LSSM this month will be to focus on the camp ministries and help children in foster care, refugee children and homeless children in LSSM programs participate in a week of enjoying the outdoors at Camp Michi-Lu-Ca.  Last year our church helped equip 33 campers!!

How we can help:
- Pray for foster children that attend camp to have a positive and  loving experience with their siblings (who often live apart and have limited contact)
- Pray for the camp staff and the children in their care this summer (including Sam Archinal, who is a counselor this summer)
- As your children outgrow clothing and tennis shoes that 3rd grade through 8th grade children could wear to camp, wash and bag with sizes noted
- Donate items from the list below to the foyer where the camping tent is located
    - Sunscreen/bug repellant
    - Sleeping bags
    - Flashlights
    - Backpacks, duffels, sling bags
  - hygiene products; shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrush, lotion, deodorant
    - towels (beach and bath)
    - water shoes or tennis shoes
    - swim gear; trunks, suits, cap
    - socks and underwear
    - travel toiletries bags
    - combs, brushes, hair ties
    - rain ponchos

SEND FOSTER KIDS & HOMELESS FAMILIES TO CAMP

Lutheran Social Services of Michigan has partnered with Living Water Ministries for the last three years to offer a special overnight camp experience at Camp Michi-Lu-Ca for children ages 8 and older who are:
*    In foster care (40 kids)
*    Living at the Wayne County Family Center (20)
*    A child in a refugee family (20 kids)

This week of camp provides a safe environment to explore faith, love and grace in a beautiful outdoor setting, while giving us an opportunity to help these children gain a sense of community in Christ. Thanks to help from other donors like you, more than 120 children served by LSSM have already benefitted from this week-long camp experience. In 2014, we desire that 80 more children have the same experience!

You can sponsor one or more of these children for a week of camp with a donation of $550. Your gift of $550 will send one child to camp Michi-Lu-Ca for one week ($400) with a sleeping bag, a pillow and duffle bag ($100), toiletries and a swimsuit ($50). This gift will cover the cost of registration, a camp t-shirt, a daily snack at the camp store, canoe trip expenses, and travel expenses to and from camp.

Make a difference in the life of a child or homeless family today! Send your tax-deductible donation to Lutheran Social Services of Michigan, ATTN: Sonia Bankston, 8131 E. Jefferson Ave., Detroit, MI 48214 or click here to make a secure donation online.
