Living the Word Sunday SchoolVacation Bible School Planning
Please mark your calendar for an organizational meeting on Wednesday May 21 11-1 at Salem Memorial Lutheran Church as we prepare to share the love and power of Jesus through VBS using Group Publishing's Weird Animals. There are all sorts of roles to fill. Some do not involve working with children; some are in preparation and don't even require being at the program. Please consider how you can facilitate this amazing partnering opportunity between St Paul and Salem Memorial. There will be an afternoon kick-off event on Sunday July 13, VBS for children in preschool- grade 5 Monday July 14 through Friday July 18 from 1 to 3:30, and an evening worship event Thursday July 17. Registration for VBS will open June 1. For more information, please contact Dana Miller 313-343-0923. Live life to the fullest! Live your faith everyday!

Upcoming Milestone Celebrations
| MILESTONE CELEBRATIONS
Affirmation of Baptism May 18
This year the entire St Paul community can join the celebration of Affirmation of Baptism in worship at 9:30 with the students who have completed their catechism studies. Please plan to attend and join in blessing them as they take this next step in their faith journey.
Stepping into the World June 8
The St Paul community celebrates the journey our young people begin from home into the world with the High School graduation milestone. Parents bless their children with quilts made by hand with love and prayer by the St Paul Pieces Be With You Quilt group.
Celebrating Our Elders
The Milestone celebration of our Elders who bless us with the story of their faith journey is moving to the fall. We look forward to sharing their Thanksgiving of God's faithfulness in October.

"Malice in the Palace, The Story of Esther" gets the royal treatment!
| The youth choirs presented a special musical event on stage May 4 and it was a complete success. With an audience of 130, the youth regaled parents, family and friends with the powerful story of Esther, Mordecai, Haman, The King and "many others" from the Bible. The 45 minute musical was directed by Children's Choir Director Maggie Rees-Baker and accompanied by Director of Music Eric Miller. "I want to thank each and every parent and member of the congregation who helped us with the costumes, the set, lighting, sound and everything it took to put on this wonderful show," says Ms. Maggie. "I was thrilled with the hard work all the kids put in and our final presentation was the best they'd ever done!" said Ms. Maggie.

Odds and Ends
| GARDEN STONES that are hand crafted by the middle and high school youth will be sold over the month of May. Garden stones make great Mother's and Father's Day gifts, and confirmation and graduation gifts. Proceeds from this effort will go to purchasing a new basketball hoop for the Wayne County Family Center, ELCA Disaster Relief and LSSM Foster Care.
Supply Preaching: The Worship Committee is inviting laypersons to lead worship/preach during one or more Sundays of pastor's vacation time. The dates are June 29, July 6, July 27, and August 3. For more information please speaks with Pastor or Susan Kvale.

Thrivent Supports Outreach
| Our own Lutheran Financial insurance and investment company (formerly AAL and Lutheran Brotherhood) receives very high marks within the business community. Thrivent products are now open to all, but are especially designed for Lutherans. We can be proud of how they had the foresight to become a fraternal organization-sharing profits with policy holders rather than being a company who pays taxes on profits.
Annually, our church receives designated money from Thrivent members (if you own products, consider listing St. Paul as your "choice" for receiving this money). In addition, our church received Chapter matching money for fundraisers held during Lent. Through a 50% match of the $2,000+ raised during 5 Lenten Dinners, the Easter Breakfast, and a fundraiser for Mission Trip to El Salvador, many people will be helped. The money raised & matched will benefit: St. Paul's Youth Choir Program & Musical, World Hunger, LSSM, and El Salvador Mission Trip. THANKS THRIVENT for ongoing support and this $1,000.
If you'd like to know more about this fraternal investment and insurance company, go to their website or contact church office for representative in our area.
