May 11:
Foster Care Services and Summer Camp Programs

Lutheran Social Services of Michigan has been providing services to families since 1934. LSSM is the largest private foster care agency that provides for over 800 children in Lower Michigan. Hear from staff that are passionate about the services they provide to foster care children and about the summer camp program that St. Paul helps support each summer. Feedback and photos of smiling faces from last year's sibling camp are part of this presentation.

Presenter: Keith Stump

Living the Word Sunday School

In celebration of Mother's Day the children will make a special craft during the opening, and then discuss the disciples Peter and John healing a lame man from Acts 3.  The Middle School Youth will make more garden stones to sell the following week.  The High School Youth will join the Adult Forum presentation on Foster Care and Adoption Services through LSSM.

Vacation Bible School Planning

Please mark your calendar for an organizational meeting on Wednesday May 21 11-1 at Salem Memorial Lutheran Church as we prepare to share the love and power of Jesus through VBS using Group Publishing's Weird Animals.  There are all sorts of roles to fill. Some do not involve working with children; some are in preparation and don't even require being at the program.  Please consider how you can facilitate this amazing partnering opportunity between St Paul and Salem Memorial.   There will be an afternoon kick-off event on Sunday July 13, VBS for children in preschool- grade 5 Monday July 14 through Friday July 18 from 1 to 3:30, and an evening worship event Thursday July 17.  Registration for VBS will open June 1. For more information, please contact Dana Miller 313-343-0923.

Odds and Ends
Thank you!  To all who supported the ELCA Malaria Campaign and wore your mosquito net pins on World Malaria Sunday!  The youth were able to send a nice contribution to ELCA that will provide funding for prevention education, mosquito nets and medication.

GARDEN STONES  that are hand crafted by the middle and high school youth will be sold over the month of May.  Garden stones make great Mother's and Father's Day gifts, and confirmation and graduation gifts.  Proceeds from this effort will go to purchasing a new basketball hoop for the Wayne County Family Center, ELCA Disaster Relief and LSSM Foster Care.

Supply Preaching: The Worship Committee is inviting laypersons to lead worship/preach during one or more Sundays of pastor's vacation time. The dates are June 29, July 6, July 27, and August 3. For more information please speaks with Pastor or Susan Kvale.

Deep Cleaning Committee Update
Take a ride on the elevator!! Our first deep cleaning activity has been completed. Many thanks to Ilene Brown and Carolyn and Win Scholfield for taking on this project. They have cleaned the elevator and cloakroom adjoining it. Also, thanks to Bev Henry and Dorothy Carty for dusting all the artificial plants in the facility. If you are interested in taking on the cleaning of a room or area, please see the sign up sheets in the foyer or contact Rick Grenzke.

About the Kroger Community Awards Program
kroger plus card If you have not already signed up for the Kroger Community Awards program please consider it. If you need help, contact Rick Grenzke or the church office. This program builds credits for St. Paul every time you use your Kroger Plus Card. Every three months, St. Paul receives a donation check from Kroger based on the volume of our usage. Last year we received over $1,800 dollars. It's easy and helps St. Paul.

This program does not impact your Kroger points. It is separate from any other program Kroger offers, so it is a win-win program for all of us. Please consider signing up.

Upcoming Milestone Celebrations
MILESTONE CELEBRATIONS

Affirmation of Baptism May 18
This year the entire St Paul community can join the celebration of Affirmation of Baptism in worship at 9:30 with the students who have completed their catechism studies.  Please plan to attend and join in blessing them as they take this next step in their faith journey.

Stepping into the World June 8
The St Paul community celebrates the journey our young people begin from home into the world with the High School graduation milestone.  Parents bless their children with quilts made by hand with love and prayer by the St Paul Pieces Be With You Quilt group.

Celebrating Our Elders
The Milestone celebration of our Elders who bless us with the story of their faith journey is moving to the fall.   We look forward to sharing their Thanksgiving of God's faithfulness in October.

LSSM Connection
Foster Care
This month we lift in prayer the LSSM Foster Care programs.  Lutheran Social Services of Michigan has been providing services for children and families since 1934. They are Michigan's largest private foster care agency, helping more than 800 children every day across the Lower Peninsula. Their experienced staff are passionate about their desire to help foster families create a better life for the children in their care.  Their goal is a safe home for every child.
