March 30:
Deep Cleaning
Presenter: Rick Grenzke see description below
Living the Word Sunday School
The children and Middle School youth will learn that Jesus raised his friend Lazarus from death showing Christ's power and the true eternal life with Him. The High School youth will assemble items from St Paul's Non-Food pantry and package a donation for LSSM Wayne County Family Center which will be delivered by the St Paul Social Action Committee that afternoon.
First Communion: Welcome to the Lord's Table Milestone Children in second grade and older who wish to prepare to receive The Sacrament of Holy Communion are invited to participate in a workshop on Saturday April 12 from 9 to 10:30 with a parent or adult sponsor. The milestone blessing will be in worship at 9:30 on Palm Sunday April 13. Please contact the office for more information.
A special Sunday in worship: notes for parents of small children The John Rutter Requiem is a rich, fascinating production that will engage and delight all children to some extent. It runs 35 minutes. It takes the place of the sermon, and there is no children's sermon or pray & play. If you feel your child needs a break, you are welcomed to adjourn to the Fireside Room with your child where you can hear it over the sound system. It's a visual experience too, so please return with your child as soon as you feel your child is ready! As always, the nursery is available for very young children.

Do Cobwebs Bug You? Dust on the Window Sill? Here is your chance to become part of the solution!
| Make a once a year commitment to help deep clean the church facility one room at a time. Sign up for a room and clean it at your convenience. It can be an individual, family or group that signs up for a room. A Deep Cleaning Form will be provided for each room describing what is to be done and what products to use with custodian supervision. What could be easier? The goal is to have a commitment for each room in the church so that once a year (or more) every area of the church will be thoroughly cleaned.
Want to hear more? Come to the Adult Forum on April 6th to get your questions answered and have the opportunity to sign up for a room. If you have a favorite room, you better sign up soon before it's gone!!

As is their tradition, the program consisted of a recounting of their history by the founding members and a sobriety countdown which resulted in over 750 years of combined sobriety reported by those present at the meeting. The meeting leader ended her remarks by expressing appreciation for the support of St. Paul as the "one constant" throughout their history. 2014 Budget Update
| The good news is that we are $6,700.00 in the black so far this year. The bad news is that we have some catching up to do in our envelope giving. The financial statement for February was presented at the March Council meeting and it shows that we are $25,000 behind our budget through February. So how can we be in the black and yet be so short in our year to date budget?
The answer is that the normal Endowment Fund revenue for the year was received in January as a lump sum and this one time revenue makes us look better off than we are. This year the normal Endowment Fund support is $32,000. When we look at just our envelope giving, it is the primary reason for the budget shortfall. The envelope giving of pledged givers is $13,000 below budget and our non-pledge offerings are down by $9,000.
If you are behind in your giving, please consider ways you might catch up over the next couple of months. Together we can turn this trend around and move forward toward the goals we have set in this transition year.

December - Heartline received personal care items for women as well as panties, toiletries and grooming items for their holiday gift bags.

Lutheran Bishop to install four pastors to lead a New Model of ministry
|
The Southeast Michigan Synod of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) announces the installation of four pastors to a cooperative parish ministry in the city of Detroit. The installation will take place Saturday, April 5, 6:30 pm at Christ Episcopal Church, 960 E. Jefferson Avenue in Detroit. Southeast Michigan Synod Bishop Donald P. Kreiss will preach. Rev. Matthew Bode, Rev. Patrick Gahagen, and Rev. Michael Johnson are ordained ELCA clergy; Rev. Lindsey Anderson is an ordained in the Presbyterian Church USA and joins the other clergy in this endeavor as a partner recognized by each denomination.
The cooperative parish includes Genesis Lutheran Church, Immanuel Lutheran Church, Salem Memorial Lutheran Church and Spirit of Hope Lutheran/Episcopal Church - all of Detroit. The uniqueness of this model is that while the congregations voted to become members of the cooperative, each pastor resigned their individual calls and was placed in the model by Bishop Kreiss. Each church will maintain its current neighborhood presence, while using a shared pastoral staff with particular areas of interest that will benefit each member congregation.
This process was initiated in 2010 as Detroit parishes were being directly affected by declining resources from the loss of population in their neighborhoods. In partnership with Data Driven Detroit, theresults were presented to the congregations in open forums and workshops to generate conversation on doing ministry in different ways. In 2012 the four participating congregations entered into an agreement to be in ministry together. Since that time, the ministries have seen an increased youth ministry, shared Bible study, joint worship services, and shared pastoral support.Bishop Kreiss stated, "This new model for ministry is a brave and faithful response to increasing pressure on our neighborhoods, our congregations and the city of Detroit. The pastors and parishes committed to doing their ministry in a new way embody the best of our church's understanding that we are all members of the Body of Christ, and that we are far stronger together than we are divided."
The installation will be preceded by a community reception at Christ Episcopal Church on Friday, April 4 at 6:30.
