Chancel Choir Notes
| The Chancel Choir is preparing John Rutter's magnificent Lenten piece Requiem, which will be sung as a musical offering on Sunday, April 6 during the 9:30am service. This multi-movement work, in both Latin and English, features the choir, the organ, several vocal soloists, and six additional instrumentalists (flute, oboe, cello, harp, keyboard and timpani-all from our own congregation!). If you would like to join with the choir and participate in singing this wonderful work, rehearsals are now being held every Thursday evening from 7:45 until 8:30. If you have any questions about this, please contact Eric Miller, either on Sunday morning at church, or by phone (313-729-2320). Come and be a part of this incredible musical experience |

World Day of Prayer
| Women's World Day of Prayer
Our Lady Queen of Peace Catholic Church to Host
the Grosse Pointe/Harper Woods Annual
Women's World Day of Prayer
March 7th at 11:00 a.m.
World Day of Prayer is an international ecumenical movement of Christian women who come together to observe a common day of prayer and action each year on the first Friday of March. Each year, a different country serves as a "writer" for the worship service, interpreting the Bible in its own context and bringing to light issues of mission, justice, and peace that are important to them. The motto of the World Day of Prayer is "Informed Prayer and Prayerful Action". This year's theme is "Streams in the Desert", with Egypt being the focus country. Offerings collected during the service will be directed to non-profit organizations that deal with the issues identified by the writer country. All are invited to participate in this prayer service, followed by fellowship in the church gathering space.
Our Lady Queen of Peace Church is located on Harper Avenue at Bournemouth, 3 blocks east of Moross. See the World Day of Prayer website at http://www.wdp-usa.org

Odds and Ends
| Mid week Lent suppers: There are still lots of opportunities to host a midweek Lent supper. The signup sheet is posted on the bulletin board by the entrance to the Harms Fireside Room.
Susan Mills, our nursery attendant will no longer be with us as of March 1. We thank her for her service. We are looking to hire someone for about 2½ hours every Sunday morning in the nursery. This job could be shared among three or four people so you wouldn't miss church every Sunday. If you're interested or know someone who is, please contact Susan Kvale at 586.294.9086 or Sandy in the Church Office 313.881.6670

The American Red Cross Blood Services staff extends their heartfelt appreciation on behalf of the many patients whose lives depend on the availability of blood products in our community.
The results the blood drive at Grosse Pointe War Memorial on February 6, 2014 are as follows:
61 Units of lifesaving blood were collected, giving as many as 168 hospital patients a chance to once again enjoy good health.
63 people registered
4 people were willing to donate but could not for minor medical reasons
55 People successfully donated one unit of whole blood
3 People gave a double red cell donation
Thank you very much to those in the congregation who donated blood that day and contributed to this effort. If you would like to donate blood but cannot go to a blood drive, the Red Cross center in Warren is very efficient and easy to get to. ~ Gerrie Spezia

Family Preservation Programs
|
"Serving people as an expression of the love of Christ" How do children end up in the foster care system and is there a way to prevent this from happening? LSSM has created Family Preservation Programs that help keep families together. Protect MiFamily and Eastside Wrap Around are new programs that intervene with at-risk families in the Metro Detroit area Please keep LSSM's Family Preservation Programs' staff and clients in your prayers this month. Thank you to all the youth who helped out with the "Pajama Party" crafts, snacks and activities during last week's Annual Meeting. Fun was had by all! Hopefully, the children who attended are enjoying watching the winter birds eat from the Pinecone birdfeeders they made! We received many requests to have another "Pajama Party" in the future. The fleece-tie blankets that were started will be finished by the Sunday School classes and donated to the LSSM Family Preservation Program Blanket and Pajama Drive which runs through the month of February
