Living the Word
Adult Forum:
 El Salvador
Members Rick and Brittany Treusch will discuss their experience working with Thrivent Builds and Habitat for Humanity in El Salvador this past November.  Learn how you can get involved this summer and help Thrivent Builds and Habitat for Humanity with their mission to eliminate poverty and provide people around the world with safe and adequate housing.

Living the Word Sunday School:

In celebration of Black History month, the children are learning about God's call to love people of every race during the opening.  The children will then discuss Dorcas who God made to be salt and light by her good works. The middle school youth will discuss being salt and light today.  The High School youth may join the adult forum presentation on the Thrivent Builds Worldwide experience from November 2013 by Brittany & Rick Treusch or tie blankets for LSSM's Family Preservation Program

Thrivent Builds Trip

St Paul is forming a team to work on a Habitat for Humanity build in El Salvador through the Thrivent Builds Worldwide July 26-August 3, 2014.  For more information visit the St Paul website Link.

Reach Out and Serve

Others need your help!

WarmHeartsAndFeet
Some families have discovered an extraordinary secret: when they set aside their own concerns and focus attention on the needs of others,
they grow deeper in love and in harmony with each other. And
that renews their ability to tackle their own struggles. Give it a try. Here are some starter ideas. See the Library for lots more.
Friend in Need (Just for Kids) - ideas to help someone who needs you.
Warm Hearts & Feet (Young Family) - gather socks and hygene supplies for shelters.
Standing Up for Others (Teen Family) - simple ways to advocate for others in need.
Help to Make New Friends (Young Adult) - make new friends by volunteering.
Resolutions (Adult/Couple) - resolve to serve. Just do it!
Gateshead Bingo Party and Prizes
St. Paul will be hosting a Bingo Party at Gateshead Senior Living Community on Tuesday, February 11th at 1:00 p.m.

Please be there by 12:45 to help set up for the event.  If you are able to help, please contact Margy Huizinga.

It is now time to replenish the Bingo prizes for the seniors at Gateshead Crossing.  Suggested items:  postage stamps and cards, grooming and skin care products for men and women, candy and sugar free candy, smaller size laundry and cleaning products and facial tissue.

A collection basket is in the Harms Fireside Room.
Chancel Choir Notes
The Chancel Choir is preparing John Rutter's magnificent Lenten piece Requiem, which will be sung as a musical offering on Sunday, April 6 during the 9:30am service.  This multi-movement work, in both Latin and English, features the choir, the organ, several vocal soloists, and six additional instrumentalists (flute, oboe, cello, harp, keyboard and timpani-all from our own congregation!).  If you would like to join with the choir and participate in singing this wonderful work, rehearsals are now being held every Thursday evening from 7:45 until 8:30.  If you have any questions about this, please contact Eric Miller, either on Sunday morning at church, or by phone (313-729-2320).  Come and be a part of this incredible musical experience
New Office Hours

Beginning February 1, 2014 (taking effect Monday, February 3), there will be a change in the Church Office hours and staff lunch time.

* The office staff lunch will be between 12:30 - 1 pm. The phone will be covered by other staff during the office staff lunch time.

* Office hours will change to 9 am - 4:30 pm, Monday to Friday.

Inevitably, for a variety of reasons, in spite of all attempts for it not to happen, there will be times during a day when no one is available to answer the phone. Please use the answering machine system and your call will be returned as soon as possible.

These changes will be in effect for the month of February and then reviewed. Adjustments will be made if necessary and as needed. If you have any questions, comments or concerns about this, please speak with either Ken Steketee or Pastor Krister.

How do children end up in the foster care system and is there a way to prevent this from happening?  LSSM has created Family Preservation Programs that help keep families together. Protect MiFamily and Eastside Wrap Around are new programs that intervene with at-risk families in the Metro Detroit area Please keep LSSM's Family Preservation Programs' staff and clients in your prayers this month.

Thank you to all the youth who helped out with the "Pajama Party" crafts, snacks and activities during last week's Annual Meeting.   Fun was had by all!   Hopefully,  the children who attended are enjoying watching the winter birds eat from the Pinecone birdfeeders they made!  We received many requests to have another "Pajama Party" in the future.   The  fleece-tie blankets that were started will be finished by the Sunday School classes and donated to the LSSM Family Preservation Program Blanket and Pajama Drive which runs through the month of February
