Living the Word Sunday School
|
Adult Forum: Thrivent Build in El Salvador Presenter: Allison Mobley Highlights from an August 2012 Thrivent Build in El Salvador with Habitat for Humanity International will be shared, as well as initial preparations for a St. Paul Thrivent Build that is being planned for July 2014.
Living the Word Sunday School
This week the children will hear the story of Hezekiah from 2 Kings 18-19 and learn that just as Hezekiah prayed in faith to God and was delivered, so Jesus, our mediator and advocate with the Father, intercedes for us. Middle School youth will discuss the readings from All Saint's Day and God's invitation to celebrate the happiness freely offered in Jesus Christ
.
The High School youth will join the Adult Forum to hear Allison Mobley's 2012 experience with Habitat for Humanity and plans for a St Paul Thrivent Build July 26-August 3, 2014 in the same location.
Operation Christmas Child
Please join St Paul's effort to show God's love to hurting children in desperate situations by packing a shoebox with age-specific toys, school supplies and hygiene items. For more information visit http://www.samaritanspurse.org/what-we-do/operation-christmas-child/ or pick up a brochure at church. The collection date is Sunday November 24.
On the two days after Halloween, we celebrate All Saints (Nov 1) and All Souls (Nov 2). In fact, another name for Halloween is All Hallows Eve, which is the eve of All Saints Day. And so we remember and celebrate the saints of the Church, the saints in our lives, and loved ones who have passed away. You can do just that with these activities:
3 Scary, Holy, Sad Days (Adult/Couple - Family) - one is scary, one is holy, and one is sad. Which is which and why?
Claim a Saint (Adult/Couple) - choose your favorite saint to honor for a day.
Living and Dying (Teen Family) - create a space to talk about death so that we all might live more fully.
Cloud of Saints (Teen Family) - friends and family members who have gone before us form a cloud of saints that surrounds us.

Bake Sale This Sunday
|
The High School students are having a bake sale to raise the funds needed to purchase gift cards to place in each of the TIP Care Packages. The baked goods will be sold before and after the service. Select some goodies and donate what you wish. Thank you!
Thank you for your generosity! The High School Sunday School class would like to express their gratitude for the generous support of the Transition to Independence (TIP) Care Package project. They were able to assemble 15 care baskets for Wayne State University foster care alumni who are currently enrolled at WSU and being supported by the TIP program. These care packages will be distributed to students on Dec. 6th when they gather to hear a motivational speaker and have a group dinner.

It's Coming Soon... St. Paul's Non-Food Pantry
| The Social Action Committee announces the opening of our new on-site ministry, the St. Paul Ev. Lutheran Non-Food Pantry. This ministry has been created in response to the needs of our LSSM agency partnerships such as Heartline, Wayne County Family Center, Foster Care, Refugee Services and others. The Non-Food Pantry will be in service as of November 1st and donations can be accepted as of next week. There will be a collection bin in the foyer. Currently needed items to be distributed from the pantry are listed below and a comprehensive list will be available on the church website and in the foyer. If you are a coupon clipper - we can use your help! Clip coupons for our needed items that you are not going to use and place them in the collection bin for pantry shoppers to use! If you would like to make a monetary donation write a check to St. Paul with Non-Food Pantry in the memo line. Please pray that this new ministry will be able to meet the needs of many in an efficient manner and be a blessing to those who do not have the resources to obtain these needed items. Thank you!

Youth News

Thanksgiving Meal at Park Place - We are looking for at least three parents to help chair and co-chair the Thanksgiving meal on November 24th for the Seniors at Park Place of Harper Woods. This is a wonderful service opportunity for our young adults to show their faith by serving others while working along side their peers. If we can not get the volunteers for this much needed event by November 2, it will have to be cancelled. I know this will be a terrible disappointment not only for the Seniors of Park Place, but for our young adults as well. Please consider giving your time for this service event and thank you in advance. If you have and questions or concerns, please email or contact me at 313-469-1064. Blessings, Shawn

CHURCH COUNCIL POSITIONS
| In December the Congregation of St. Paul will vote to fill Council positions for Vice President, Treasurer, Christian Education, Worship, and Social Action.
Although it is a serious commitment, serving on Congregation Council is a rewarding experience and a great way to serve our Church. Please give this thoughtful consideration.
If you are interested in running for one of these positions and would like additional information, please contact Jack Diesing via email at jack.diesing@ally.com or by phone at (313) 882-5988.

Refugee Services
|
This month our focus in our prayer partnership with Lutheran Social Services of Michigan is Refugee Services. On November 17th, Rafat Ita, will share in Adult Forum what services are provided to refugees and the struggles they have encountered. The demand for resettlement services has increased with the rising unrest in the Middle East. Continue to lift refugees and the LSSM workers in your prayers in November.
