Adult Forum:
LSSM presentation on Home Care Services Speakers:  Robert Louis-Ferdinand, Vice President, LSSM Home & Community
Darlene Jones, Operations Manager

LSSM Home Care Services helps senior adults and others who need temporary or ongoing help to live independently.  They provide a variety of services from housekeeping to transportation for those who need a little help to remain in their homes.  Find out how home care services are delivered to a rapidly-aging population from the directors of this growing arm of LSSM.

Living the Word Sunday school:
Sunday school is open to all children and youth from pre-school to High School seniors.

Trunk or Treak
On Saturday, October 26th from 4pm-5:30pm Youth and Family will be hosting a Halloween Trunk or Treat night.  This will be a community outreach project and we need volunteers to park their vehicles in the parking lot and hand out candy to the little ones in our community.

Please help to make this a safe and family friendly event by donating your time and a couple bags of candy.  To add to the fun we are going to have 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place prize for best decorated vehicles of the eve.  The fun will not be stopping after the Trunk or Treat, from 5:30pm-9:30pm Youth and Family along with our Children's Choir Director will host a pizza party/movie night for St. Paul congregation families and their friends. Dressing up in character is encouraged! We will be showing Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone and serving pizza, fruit tray, veggie tray and drinks.  There will be a charge of $5 per person.  Please sign up for these events in the Welcome Center and come and enjoy a magical evening with friends!

Support the Quilt Ministry at St Paul's
quilters
Sunday Oct 20th and 27th after the church service, the Pieces Be with You quilt group will be selling various items made by group members to help defray the cost of supporting the work done at St Paul's.  Many of these items would make great Christmas gifts.

This year the group has completed
        40+ Freedom House quilts
        17   Graduation quilts
         5    Confirmation Stoles
         6    Comfort quilts
         1    Quilt for the Harms
         6    Baptismal quilts
       13    Lutheran World Relief quilts

Pieces Be With You meets every Tuesday night at 7 PM.  Come see what the group is up to anytime.  And, please support the group by purchasing a handmade item after church on Oct 20 or 27.

CHURCH COUNCIL POSITIONS
church council In December the Congregation of St. Paul will vote to fill Council positions for Vice President, Treasurer, Christian Education, Worship, and Social Action.

Although it is a serious commitment, serving on Congregation Council is a rewarding experience and a great way to serve our Church. Please give this thoughtful consideration.

If you are interested in running for one of these positions and would like additional information, please contact Jack Diesing via email at jack.diesing@ally.com or by phone at (313) 882-5988.
Stewardship Update
So Where Do We Stand on Our Budget:
As of the end of August, our "Envelope Giving" is behind our projected budgeted amount by $15,000. Our total shortfall in revenues is $12,000 due to more "All Other Support" income than budgeted. That's the bad news.

The good news is that our expenses are significantly lower than budgeted. The total of "Salaries" and "Fringe Benefits" are $18,000 less than budgeted. This is primarily due to Pastor Harms retiring at the end of May and Pastor Ulmanis not coming on board until September. "Utilities" are also down by $3,000 and "All Other Programs" is down by $3,000 compared to the budgeted amount for the end of August.

So the bottom line is a Net Income of $22,000 as of the end of August. This is ahead of our budgeted Net Income of $12,000.

Is Stewardship Your "Thing"?
I would like to create a committee of 3 to 5 people to help in the stewardship function of our ministry. This will entail more than just pledge drive activities. If you are interested or would like more information on the activities, contact me either via E-mail at rgrenzke@gmail.com or leave a note in my mail box at church.

Let's Discuss Stewardship at St. Paul!!
I will be leading Adult Forum sessions on October 20th and October 27th. The first being financially oriented and the second being ANYTHING BUT financially oriented. Please plan on attending.

Thank you,
Rick Grenzke, Stewardship Chairperson

Social Action Update:
To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the ELCA, we are participating in the Malaria Campaign! This campaign has a goal of reaching 15 million dollars by 2015 - and the effort is more than halfway there with over 9 million dollars raised! Did you know? .....
A child dies from malaria every 60 seconds.

Today we are in a special moment where we could turn this around. Working though Lutheran churches in Africa, the ELCA Malaria Campaign is uniquely positioned to provide mosquito nets, insecticides, medication, health care, education and more to help eliminate deaths from this disease-for good.

For more information on the ELCA's Malaria Campaign see

As the hustle and bustle of back to school is underway - please lift up in prayer the youth who have aged out of foster care. These young people are taking on new roles as students or workers without family support and resources. Pray that they let God guide their decisions and know that He is always with them.

Our congregation member, Dr. Angelique Day, directs a program at Wayne State University, Transition to Independence (TIP) program that provides support to students that are entering college and have aged out of foster care.

Care packages will be put together with items that students need in the dorm and will be delivered in October. If you would like to help with this service project by donating items, please see the following link: http://www.tipwaynestate.org/care-package.html
Please contact Mary Weiland if you would like to participate at mary@weilandfamily.com
