Pastoral Comings and Goings
Comings
The application for an H1-B Visa for Pastor Krister Ulmanis has been approved!  This paves the way for him to obtain the visa from the US Consulate office in Toronto and begin to serve as our Interim Pastor.   We don't know how long it will take to have the Visa in hand, but we believe it is a relatively short process.  Council approved a contract with Pastor Ulmanis on August 7 contingent on his obtaining the Visa, so the administrative steps are in place for him to join us as soon as possible.  Pastor Ulmanis is planning on being with us this Sunday!

Goings
On Sunday, August 4, during announcement time, I read out loud the letter that was addressed to St. Paul pastor collierLutheran Church Council. It details that in compliance with the decision of the leadership of the congregation, I shall end my call here on the last day of September, 2013.

In my time of service here, I have given my fair share and joy in the enrichment of congregational life. I have been available to talk with parishioners on matters as they affect you. I have also shared in your joys and disappointments as they affect you. Similarly, many of you have been there for me when, in the changes and chances of this fleeting world, I have also experienced loss. I thank you for giving me the opportunity to serve you. There comes a time when one needs to move on to new horizons and different ministry settings; this is the time for me.

Beginning in October this year, I shall be going to Sierra Leone to pursue ministry there, serving the Evangelical Lutheran Church of Sierra Leone (ELCSL) as Missionary Coordinator, through the ELCA. Please keep my continuing ministry in your prayers.

Fall Worship Schedule
I was glad when they said to me,
"Let us go to the house of the Lord!"
Psalm 122:1

The Council has approved the recommendation from the Christian Education and Worship committees for our one service format this fall.

We joyfully anticipate this new schedule which allows us to worship together as one church family.   Our worship will be enhanced as we enjoy the choirs each Sunday, share communion and experience the milestone events together.  This new schedule will allow teachers and leaders of the education program to build upon God's lessons from worship as they seek to write God's word upon the hearts of all His children.

May God continue to be glorified here at St. Paul as we move to this new schedule beginning September 8th.

Worship at 9:30 am
Education Hour at 10:45 to 11:30 am

Important Dates for Families with
Children and Youth

Listen God is Calling:
Rally Day and Blessing of the Backpacks
September 8 marks the start of a new season of worship and education.  Our theme is 'Listen God is Calling'. Children are encouraged to bring their school backpacks on Rally Day for a blessing during worship which begins at 9:30. Following worship, everyone is invited to the Harms Fireside Room for a welcome to Living the Word Sunday School and celebration of the 25th anniversary of the ELCA.  Sunday School introductions will follow with a game for the children.  Registration forms are available at http://www.stpaulgp.org/ parents and grandparents are encouraged to bring completed registration forms.

St. Paul Annual Rummage Sale
Another great way to help the Rummage Sale effort is to donate food or help serve the lunches we provide to setup and sale workers. We need donations of drinks, desserts, salads and main dish items. Please contact Ilene Brown or Michele O'Connell if you can donate something or help serve. If you don't have time to shop, we welcome monetary donations to defray the cost of purchasing food.

We have "lost" some of our volunteers who work in the Boutique for set-up and sale says.  Please email Sandy Brown if you can help.

Need to drop off stuff...Monday nights will be great time to that. If Monday doesn't' work, please drop if off during the weekdays between 9am and noon between August 1 and September 10. If these times don't work for you, please do not leave your "goodies" outside the doors, call Gretchen Archinal or Liz Jenzen to make other arrangements.

We'll find a new home for the clothing, books, furniture and everything in between! Poppen Hall will be ready to accept your donations. Please help us by hanging the clothes on the racks and putting other treasures in the marked areas

Rummage Sale Setup is from
Sunday, September 8 through Thursday, September 12.

Rummage Sale dates are Friday and Saturday,
September 13  and 14

Thanks to your treasures so many people will benefit
Pray & Play Leaders Needed
play and pray
Pray & Play supports families with young children in worship by giving children a break and allowing parents an opportunity to focus on the sermon.  Adult leaders are needed to spend 20-25 minutes with the children and lead them in a closing prayer; there is no teaching expectation. It is our hope that a number of volunteers can share this responsibility on a rotating basis. Please contact Mary Mobley or Patty Dougherty to be part of this ministry.
