Church News
Stewardship/Summer/Vacation Time
I had a conversation with the "Church" the other day about what he will be doing for vacation this summer. He said: "Vacation? What vacation?"  It turns out that the church keeps right on going all summer long !! Soooo... it would appear that we should keep in mind that during our own summer vacation time the church still needs our financial support. Let's all have a great summer and help the church have a great summer too. Thanks for your support.

Please save the date:

Council Updates

At the June 19 meeting, Council took the following actions:

*Authorized expenditures of $2400 for an expedited visa application and background check for Pastor Ulmanis, our candidate for Interim Pastor.

*Authorized additional salary payments to our staff of 4% of their compensation this year through June.  This followed a review of our budget, receipt of unanticipated income, and realized and anticipated savings resulting from the delay and reduced medical costs for our interim pastor.  No commitments going forward or salary increases were made, but will be considered at year end.

*Approved expenditure of up to $1800 from the Special Projects Fund for several Christian Ed volunteers to attend 21st Century Faith Formation Training in Ann Arbor in August.

*Discussed how to handle the call process.  We will wait until the Interim Pastor is onboard before forming a call committee.   There are two phases to the call process - discernment of our mission going forward, and the interviews with potential candidates.  We may consider separate committees for each phase.

*Approved use of the Youth Room for supervised activities by Chi Rho and younger youth.

*Designated the outreach portion of the Schultz Fund final payout.  Half of the outreach portion will be distributed this year to ministries in our Companion Synods in Tanzania and the Holy Land, with the remaining to be allocated in 2014.

*Amended minutes from March 2013 to include Council Actions to authorize fundraising for a major retirement gift to Pastor Harms, and to rename the Fireside Room in his honor.

Full minutes will be available when approved.  The Council's next meeting is August 21.  We will meet as necessary to review and approve a potential contract with our Interim Pastor.

Foster Kids Go to Camp!
As we close out National Foster Care Month we look to the needs of foster care children over the summer.   Many foster care children live away from their siblings in different housing situations.   In the summer, they have an opportunity to spend the week the week with their siblings  through participation in summer camp.   This year the foster  children from the Detroit area will attend Camp Michi-Lu-Ca  in July.   The Social Action Committee has organized a collection of summer camp items for 21 foster children.  Please see the Wish List below and we will collect items through  July 15th.  Thank you for lifting up in prayer  foster care children, their families/caregivers, and the camp staff that will engage them in a meaningful and blessed week with their siblings.
