June 13, 2013

Thanks to all of you for your continuing support.  As most of you know, I've been trying to balancing a full-time long-term substitute teaching job, full-time grad school and working at church.

Now that school, (subbing) is over, I'm planning on being at church on a full-time basis this summer. I will be on vacation at the end of August from the 16th to the 27th, which correspondence with the semester break at Wayne.

Please continue to keep Tom and I as well as the kids in your prayers as we juggle!

Yours in Christ,
Gretchen

Council Update on Interim Pastor
We are working with the Synod and Pastor Ulmanis to obtain the required work visa for him to be able to work in the USA.  He plans to live in Windsor and will commute daily to Grosse Pointe.  There will be some upfront costs to obtain the visa; we are working on an expedited application and may employ legal assistance to ensure a timely result.  These costs will be more than offset by savings in health care payments for Pastor Ulmanis because he will remain in the Canadian Health Care system.  Our best guess is that Pastor Ulmanis will be able to join us in early July.  In the meantime, Pastor Collier will be leading worship and managing the ongoing work of the staff.  Please keep him, the staff, church leadership, our congregation and Pastor Ulmanis in your prayers in this time of transition.

Foster Kids Go to Camp!
As we close out National Foster Care Month we look to the needs of foster care children over the summer.   Many foster care children live away from their siblings in different housing situations.   In the summer, they have an opportunity to spend the week the week with their siblings  through participation in summer camp.   This year the foster  children from the Detroit area will attend Camp Michi-Lu-Ca  in July.   The Social Action Committee has organized a collection of summer camp items for 21 foster children.  Please see the Wish List below and we will collect items through  July 15th.  Thank you for lifting up in prayer  foster care children, their families/caregivers, and the camp staff that will engage them in a meaningful and blessed week with their siblings.

Camp Michi-Lu-Ca Wish List
