A Gigantic Thank You
The American Red Cross Blood Services staff extends their heartfelt appreciation for your efforts on behalf of the many patients whose lives depend on the availability of blood products in our community.

The results of the blood drive on May 15, 2013 are as follows:
37 whole blood units (pints) and 3 double red units (double pints) were collected. This gives as many as 114 hospital patients a chance to once again enjoy good health.

Thank you to all 14 St. Paul blood donors, including one very brave first time donor. Let's try to have as good a turnout from St. Paul at the next blood drive in July at the Grosse Pointe War Memorial.

Thank you Ray and Greg who moved all the tables and chairs in Sandrock Hall so that the Red Cross folks could set up and for moving the Young and Restless meeting. And then moved them all back the next day. Last but not least, thank you also to my volunteer staff who helped at the drive: Mary Mobley, Liz Jenzen, Betty Morris, Brenda Brege, Kris Grabowski, and Margie Huizinga.

The Situation
Tornadoes have ripped through Oklahoma, Kansas, Illinois, Iowa and Texas claiming many lives and damaging hundreds of homes.

A two-mile-wide tornado ripped through Moore, Okla., claiming lives and leaving behind a devastating trail of destruction. Plaza Towers Elementary School stood right in the path of the storm's 166-200 mph winds.

Many Oklahoma residents already were recovering from storms even before the tornado hit - hundreds of homes were damaged or destroyed as 28 tornadoes touched down throughout Oklahoma, Kansas, Texas, Illinois and Iowa. As strong winds and warm fronts continue to move across the nation, the threat for future tornado outbreaks is looming.

Our Response:
Through Lutheran Disaster Response, the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA) is responding in areas affected by these tornadoes.

Your help is needed to bring hope to our sisters and brothers in need. Lutheran Disaster Response affiliates are already on the ground, assessing the immediate and long-term needs of those affected by the tornadoes. Throughout the United States we are working hand-in-hand with ELCA synods and other ministry organizations that are experts at outreach in their communities.

We know it will be a long road to recovery, and your gifts are needed now to begin coordinating volunteers, rebuilding homes and offering spiritual and emotional care to those in need.

What you can do:
Pray:
As the communities work to recover, please keep them and those who work on their behalf in prayer.
Give:
Your donation to Lutheran Disaster Response, designated for "U.S. Tornadoes," will be used entirely (100 percent) to help families whose lives and livelihoods have been impacted by this disaster. Donations from people like you allow the ELCA to respond to those in need.

Council Update on Interim Pastor
The Church Council voted on May 15 to accept Pastor Krister Ulmanis as our Interim Pastor.  With this authorization, the Executive Committee will be working with Pastor Heather Holland from the Synod Office to develop a salary package and plan for him to join us full-time in June.   Pastor Ulmanis is from Ontario, Canada and has over 21 years of parish ministry and a varied background, with good administrative and faith development skills.   We look forward to him serving with us in our transition to new pastoral ministry at St. Paul.

Linda Bauer to Retire
Linda Bauer has decided to retire as organist and bell choir director effective the end of August.   We thank Linda for over 33 years as Organist, Director of Music, founder and director of the Bell Choir, and a major reason for the excellent music program we have at St. Paul.  We will formally recognize Linda in August.  The Music Committee has begun a search for a replacement; see Eric Miller or Tom Marini if you have suggestions or know of someone who would be interested in these positions.
