Adult Forum
May 5 - LSSM Summer Camp Programs As the summer approaches, many children in the suburbs already know what activities they'll engage in over the next few months. For inner city children though, this is not always the case. A representative from LSSM will detail ways in which, we, in partnership with LSSM, work toward having children in the inner cities engaged through summer activities and programs. Presenter: Lacey Harris, LLMSW, Family Recruitment Specialist
Living the Word for Children and Youth
This Sunday the children will learn that Jesus teaches us to pray and our heavenly Father promises to hear our prayers. The children meet in Sandrock Hall at 10:10 for the opening, and continue to celebrate Easter of with short nursery rhyme songs.
The Middle School and High School youth will join the adult forum in the Bethany room for the presentation by LSSM on Foster Children.

May Mystery Movie Night | Following the success of our movie night in March, the Children's Choirs bring you..."May Mystery Movie Night" Friday, May 10th. We will start at 7:00pm. In honor of Pastor Harms upcoming retirement, I asked him to pick one of his favorite family movies to share with us. Shhh! It's a surprise and I won't reveal the title! The freewill offering will cover the expenses of the evening and go to Pastor Harm's retirement (50% goes to Luther Seminary in Minnesota). Come and join us! Be surprised and enjoy a funny, heartwarming family favorite! The Children's Choirs and I want to thank the congregation for the new instruments we were able to purchase. Be sure to be in church on Mother's Day when we will include them with our songs. Through your generosity in coming to our March movie night, buying the Easter candy, individual gifts, the gift from the WELCA rummage sale and a matching gift from the music fund, we raised $2000 and were able to buy 5 Orff instruments. The Trempus family also donated a high quality glockenspeil that their son no longer uses. Thank you! (If you're so inclined, there are 3 more instruments we need in order to have a complete set. These cost $330, $357, and $952. Donations are very welcome!) Maggie Rees-Baker

Update on Interim Pastor and the Call Process
| |
I met with Synod Staff on April 16 to discuss the upcoming Call Process for our new Pastor and the details of receiving an Interim Pastor to guide us through the discernment and call process. What we know at this point:
Synod suggests that we appoint two committees to conduct the discernment and call process.
1. An Interim Task Force will consist of 5 or 6 members and the Interim Pastor. The purpose will be to develop the vision of our future ministry, and identify the qualities and capabilities of our new Pastor. Congregation input will be solicited. Our Transition Committee Report will be a resource for this committee, and may shorten the process somewhat, but we will ask this committee to start afresh. This committee will be appointed by Council after the Interim Pastor is on board, probably in June. This phase will likely take about 6 to 8 months.
2. A Call Committee will be appointed by Council toward the end of the Interim Task Force's work. This committee will be responsible for considering candidates that have been screened by the Synod based on the work of the Interim Task Force. We can expect about 3 candidates. The Call Committee will conduct interviews and ultimately recommend a candidate to the Council and Congregation for issuing a call. This process could take 6 to 8 months as well, depending on timing for interviews, and availability of candidates.
There are candidates available for the Interim Pastor position. The Synod will suggest a candidate that they feel will best serve our needs. We will have the opportunity to meet the candidate before Council is asked to approve her/him. This will likely occur in May. The Interim Pastor will likely start in June, depending on availability. There is flexibility in whether the Interim Pastor serves full time or ¾-time, but the pool of candidates is smaller for part-time service.
I will keep the congregation regularly informed about what is happening with this process. If you have comments or questions, please don't hesitate to call me (313) 881-9522 or email me at upmeyers@hotmail.com. We are embarking on a special time in our congregation. Continue to keep our pastors, leaders and members in your prayers. And look for ways to help out in this transition period.
