The Fig Tree Books
A woman turns down a back alley in the rain, preparing to commit suicide. A sick man races home just in time to reach the dialysis machine that will save his life. Two little children steal food from a store and are caught. And all this happens in the first five minutes!!
Unconditional (based on true events) tells the story of a young woman who has been searching for years to find her husband's murderer. She meets a childhood friend along the way who has since become a mentor and friend for at-risk children. Her life and outlook is changed by this encounter and by spending time with the children her friend mentors.
The producers of this movie were true artists. Every scene contains stunningly gorgeous colors and lighting, and portrays moments that will literally take your breath away. Also, the acting was exceptional. I can't remember the last time I saw and experienced such raw, real emotions portrayed by actors. I could actually feel the heartbreak and the joy that the characters were feeling. This one will make even strong men cry - guaranteed!
The Christian message was very subtle, but there. My one criticism has to do with the theme and title of the movie. I'm not quite sure how "unconditional" had anything to do with the story! If anyone can tell me, please let me know! Also, this one contains some violence, so I would caution that it may not be appropriate for young children.
Overall, Unconditional is one of the best Christian movies I have seen in a long time. I can't say enough about how much I enjoyed this film. Definitely a 5/5 from The Fig Tree. Suggestion: watch this one with the lights off to get the full effect!
