| Amazing Love: The Story of Hosea
|
I'll be honest and say that I've never felt particularly connected to the Book of Hosea from the Old Testament. Watching the movie Amazing Love: The Story of Hosea has completely changed that. "The story of Hosea is a picture of God's love for us." And what a heartbreaking and beautiful picture the movie paints about selfless and unconditional love. The premise is simple: a group of teenagers from a youth group go camping. One of them is a girl who doesn't fit in and a conflict arises from their differences. To try and mend the conflict the youth leader (played by Sean Astin) decides to tell the story of Hosea. By showing how God taught Hosea the truth of unconditional love, the youth pastor shows the teenagers that everyone needs love, whether or not we think they are deserving of it. When we let Jesus live through us we are capable of a similar selfless love. In my eyes, though sometimes the dialogue felt forced, the movie was extremely well done. Amazing Love clearly shows God's unfathomable love for us by relating it to the heartbreak that Hosea felt and the love he demonstrated by giving everything he had to rescue his wife. The message resonated with me and reinforced how beautiful and powerful our God's love is for us, even when we aren't loving Him back. - Melissa |
