"Dedicated to the health and happiness of your pet!"

Welcome to Westfield's only holistic and natural pet food and supply store and gentle grooming salon!

My name is Nicoll and I opened For K-9s & Felines in July, 2005.  I was born and raised in Westfield and have had the pleasure of having pets my entire life. This is a family affair and I am grateful to have the support and help of my mom, Reggie and my husband, Michael.

Years ago, when I brought my cat to a groomer to be bathed, I had asked about why Callie's coat was so bad. The groomer asked me what I was feeding her. When I told her, she shook her head and gave me a photocopy of an article. We had a short discussion about pet food and when I changed my food and saw the results, not only was I shocked but disappointed. All the marketing on the pet food bags or on television led me to believe I was feeding a good food. I, like so many pet owners, believed what I was told. The store where I purchased my food never told me anything about it (and I was not purchasing my food at a grocery store). So I started doing research and read a great book, Food Pets Die For, by Ann Martin. That book exposed the entire pet food industry. And this is how I got started.

I enjoy studying animal health, nutrition, and behavior and educating my clients so that their pet can live a long and healthy life. I also stay on top of industry changes so my clients can feel assured they are giving their pets the best products. The store also boasts a gentle grooming salon for dogs and cats. Unlike high volume grooming shops, we dedicate time solely to them and groom them start to finish using gentle techniques. We provide them with calm, relaxing atmosphere and give them lots of love!  As such, your pet gets to leave as soon as it's done.

In 2007, with encouragement from my customers, I started to learn pet grooming.  Today, I receive referrals from my clients, pet industry professionals and local veterinarians to which I am so appreciative! Finally, I hope that when you visit our store, you will find quality products.  Because I truly do care about what you feed and give your pet, you will not find grocery store or big chain foods.  My conscious won't allow it!

"Dedicated to the health and happiness of your pet!" is more than a motto.  My passion is to make your pet healthy - inside and out!

This is what makes For K-9s & Felines different.

Community leaders from the Appalachian Mountain Club Berkshire Chapter and Westfield Transition Towns are presenting the Work of 1000 Civic Engagement Program at the Westfield Athenaeum on Wednesday, March 27th at 6:30 PM.

This program, a 30-minute film complemented by a personal discussion with the film's central figure, citizen activist Marion Stoddart - provides a gripping profile of an ordinary citizen who realized her power to make a difference. The film, The Work of 1000, shares Marion's exhilarating story of her work to clean up the Nashua River, once one of the most polluted rivers in America.

Our communities are facing real challenges. Economic uncertainty, global climate change, and other critical social issues are literally right at our doorstep. And now, more than ever, we need stories of hope, grit, empowerment and change. We need an inspirational model that engages people to make a difference in the world.

The presentation at the Westfield Athenaeum is part of Work of 1000's campaign to help nurture a strong corps of engaged citizens, raise awareness, build leadership skills and give people confidence that they can make a difference. Come view the film, participate in the discussion and see how you can take specific actions to improve Westfield's quality of life.

The Appalachian Mountain Club promotes the protection, enjoyment and stewardship of the mountains, forests, waters, and trails of the Appalachian region. We believe that mountains, forests, and waters have intrinsic worth and also provide recreational opportunities, spiritual renewal, and ecological and economic health for the region. Because successful conservation depends on active engagement with the outdoors, we encourage people to experience, learn about, appreciate, and understand the natural world. Berkshire Chapter volunteers maintain about 300 miles of hiking trails in Western Massachusetts, including 90 miles of the Appalachian Trail, and the chapter sponsors hundreds of outdoor events throughout the year.

Transition Towns is a global movement tackling economic deterioration, climate instability, and increasing weather emergencies with creative local action. Over 100 towns, cities, suburbs and neighborhoods in the Northeast have started Transition Initiatives to increase local resilience and economic vitality.

Armbrook Villages Announces April 1st Opening

Mayor Knapik and Others Attend Pre-Opening Presentation

Armbrook Village, the Pioneer Valley's newest senior living community, hosted Westfield Mayor Daniel Knapik and other local community guests at a pre-opening presentation this past Friday. Armbrook Village Executive Director Beth Cardillo also formally announced the community's April 1, 2013 opening date.

Those in attendance got to see several model apartments including studio, one bedroom and two bedroom homes. Guests were also taken on a hard-hat tour of the unfinished building. The tour featured a presentation of the community's extensive amenities which include award-winning healthy cuisine in the Grill Room restaurant, group exercise classes and an on-site fitness center, spa and hairdressing services, aCreative Arts and Computer Center and Putting Green. Ms. Cardillo, who conducted the tour along with developer Michael McCarthy, highlighted the fact all of these features and more are available to residents as part of their monthly fee and that Armbrook Village, unlike many other similar communities in the area, does not require a buy-in. It's a straight monthly rental community.

The new senior community will be managed by Massachusetts-based Senior Living Residences, a well- known name in the senior living industry and pioneers in launching Assisted Living in Massachusetts. With Senior Living Residence's expertise and a highly experienced local management team headed by Cardillo, Armbrook Village will feature independent senior apartments with concierge services, service-enriched assisted living, and a state-of-the-art Compass Memory Support Neighborhood™, affiliated with Boston University's School of Medicine's Alzheimer's Disease Center, featuring research-based treatment for those with memory loss.

Mayor Daniel Knapik, who has supported the Armbrook Village project over a now five-year planning, permitting and construction phase, said he is excited to see the project come to fruition. "Armbrook Village will add vitality to Westfield and our surrounding communities - not just for our seniors, but for other age groups in our community and our local businesses. The over 120 residents of Armbrook Village will make use of area amenities such as the YMCA, Noble Hospital, our shopping centers, grocery stores and restaurants. And they will be involved in the fabric of our community through volunteering and other social and cultural pursuits."

He added, "Armbrook Village will add 75 part-time and full-time permanent jobs in Westfield - music to my ears in an economy that is still recovering. This community serves as one of the major accomplishments of our city's revitalization effort."

"I read an article the other day. The first baby boomer turned 65 years old on January 1, right? So in the city of Westfield, we have 9,000 residents over age 65. It's clear by all the studies that have been done; we don't have enough locations and options for senior living throughout the region, so we are very happy to be home to this community."

Cardillo also announced the new senior community's affiliations with local groups and organizations including Noble Hospital, Noble VNA, and the YMCA of Greater Westfield. Another highlight from the morning's presentation was the announcement of Alzheimer's Association approved support group meetings for Westfield area families to be led by Compass Program Director, Brenda Lopes.

Allison Gearing-Kalill, Vice President of Community Development at Noble Hospital, was present on the tour. "Noble Hospital is very excited to have the opportunity to collaborate with Armbrook Village to provide professional on-site clinical services to the residents. This State-of-the-Art senior residence offers elegant accommodations, programs, and amenities, in a serene secure environment. Residents of Westfield are very fortunate to have Armbrook as a member of our community."

Also on hand to tour the building were Kate Phelon from the Greater Westfield Chamber of Commerce and Westfield's City Advancement Officer Jeff Daley.

By training yourself and your key staff in progressive marketing techniques you can create an ongoing marketing process that will move you forward and generate results from your investments.
