OCTOBER 2012
|
Dear ,
Since our last newsletter, the Chamber held a very successful Rake in the Business, October WestNet, and attended four ribbon cuttings! We are also pleased to announce that our Board of Directors has approved our Strategic Plan for 2013. More information on our Strategic Plan will be shared at the Annual Meeting on Wednesday, November 14th at Shaker Farms Country Club.
Speaking of the Annual Meeting, the Chamber is very pleased to announce the 2012 Business Leader of the Year - Jeffrey R. Daley, City Advancement Officer. His commitment to our city, the downtown area, and city-wide economic development accomplishments over the past year is deserving of this recognition. Please join us in honoring Jeff at our Annual Meeting by calling Pam Bussell, administrative assistant, at 568.1618 or email her at info@westfieldfieldbiz.org.
The Rake In The Business Table Top Showcase was a huge success and I would like to thank our sponsors: Platinum: Westfield Bank; Gold: The Westfield News Group and Silver: MetLife:

Patrick Berry, President of the Westfield News Group

Wegrzyn Dental Group

Janet Allen - Bags, Baubles & Chocolate

We want to thank East Mountain Country Club for hosting our Oktoberfest WestNet and here are some photos to enjoy:

Justin Friend, Dave Felty & Valerie Hansen
Michelle Crosby & Betty Sheldon (lucky winner of the 50/50!)
At our September Breakfast, Earl Bonett, State Vice Chair of Employer Support of the Guard & Reserve, asked the Chairman of our Board and me to sign a statement of support for our men and women who serve our country in the Armed Forces. We did so at that breakfast and I know it is appreciated by all who serve. I urge each and every one of you to do the same. You can contact Earl at 413.267.4037 or email at coffeelvr9@aol.com. Remember, all you are doing is signing a document stating your support and is a good public relations program.
Sincerely,
Kate Phelon
Executive Director

The Westfield Service Center of the Salvation Army would like to extend an invitation to members of your youth or adult groups to participate as bell ringers for the 2012 Christmas Red Kettle Campaign. This is a fun time and it does not require anyone to approach a potential donor. Your invitation to contribute money to the kettle is by your ringing of the bell. The bell symbolizes the intention of the The Salvation Army, "People Caring for People."
Another option is to earn money for your group while raising money for the community through our "Community Partnership." If you or your organization is interested in becoming bell ringers, please call 413.568.1256 and sign up for a convenient time. We ask for a time commitment of two hours with two people. Our sites are The Bon Ton, Walmart, Stop & Shop, and Dunkin Donuts. Make it fun by wearing holiday hats, play music, pass out candy or have a sign or banner with the name of your group!

Stanley Park of Westfield has the honor to welcome "Wreaths Across America". This year we have been selected as one of the stops along the way in the Wreaths Across America -Escort to Arlington 2012. The convoy is due to arrive in Westfield at 9:00 a.m. on December 11, 2012. Wreaths Across America is a nonprofit organization founded to continue and expand the annual wreath laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery begun by Maine businessman, Morrill Worcester, in 1992 As many other communities have done in the past, we would like our City to roll out the "Welcome Mat" asking each of you to get the word out and possibly organize a "Welcome". It would be wonderful to have people of the City out on the streets, lining our new bridges, gathered on the new green and school children holding signs that they created in their art classes as the convoy comes through our City. Wreaths Across America will be coming off the MA Turnpike (exit 3) bearing right and traveling North Elm Street , Elm Street onto Court Street, continuing onto Western Avenue and then arriving at Stanley Park. Wreaths Across America is a 501(c)(3) organization. The website is www.wreathsacrossamerica.org. There is a brochure/form for people that would like to "Sponsor a Wreath" or it can be done by simply going to the websites home page and click on "Act Now". Sponsorship levels are reasonable. What an honor it would be to have our City recognized across the nation for supporting this cause. For more information call Robert McKean, Managing Director at (413) 568-9312 x102 or myself at x101.
