Clinic Awarded for Nationally-Recognized Care
|
Following a rigorous on-site examination of our operations, Watson Clinic earned another three-year accreditation from the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care, Inc. (AAAHC) - the nation's leading accrediting organization of outpatient facilities. The Clinic has been accredited every year since 1969.
Being accredited means that we have undergone professional scrutiny by highly qualified AAAHC professionals and were found to demonstrate a strong commitment to maintaining patient safety, protecting patient privacy and providing quality care.

Annual Hispanic Festival Deemed Successful
Watson Clinic was a Ruby Sponsor of the 17th Annual Lakeland Hispanic Festival as organized by Club Hispano de Lakeland. The festival featured Hispanic foods, music, folkloric dancers, arts, crafts, and giveaways from a variety of vendors. Watson Clinic was well represented by our bilingual physicians who worked at the sponsor booth. Check out photos from the event by visiting our Facebook album.
Kidney Walk Brings Out Clinic Spirit
Watson Clinic proudly served as a Silver Level Sponsor for the 2014 Kidney Walk in support of the National Kidney Foundation. Members of the Kidney Center family participated in the event, which took place around Lake Hollingsworth in Lakeland. Their involvement, coupled with the Clinic's monetary support, shed light on the dangers of kidney disease, as well as the benefits of increased awareness and education.

Free Diabetes Screenings Held
With November being recognized as American Diabetes Month, the Watson Clinic diabetic educators teamed with the Clinic's dietitians to offer free diabetes screenings at both the Main Clinic and Bartow. Patients were screened to identify those who may be at risk for diabetes, as well as to provide information so individuals will gain the knowledge they need to lower their risk factors.
Watson Clinic offers a comprehensive diabetes program, to include self-management classes, individual appointments with board-certified endocrinologists, certified diabetes educators, dietitians and blood sugar monitoring classes. Patient appointments are available with a referral from a Watson Clinic physician at 863-680-7490. Diabetes education is offered at Watson Clinic's Main, South, Bartow, Lakeland Highlands and Plant City locations.
Single-Site Robotic Surgery Now Offered Watson Clinic surgeons have long embraced the benefits of robotic technologies in the operating room, and have consistently been leaders in introducing these procedures to our area.
Now, we're proud to continue this tradition by offering single-site robotic procedures - a surgical method that involves only a single one-inch incision near the belly button. Watson Clinic patients have undergone the single-site method for gall bladder removal and hysterectomy procedures, and their results have been phenomenal.
Visit our website to read about one patient's recent single-site hysterectomy procedure, which was performed by Watson Clinic gynecologic oncologist Dr. Richard Cardosi. To learn more about the Watson Clinic surgeons who use robotics in their practice, click here.
Flu Update
With December upon us, we know that flu activity most commonly peaks between now and February.
Of course, the best way to prevent the flu is by getting vaccinated. While Watson Clinic opened walk-in flu clinics in early September, those clinics closed on December 5. Patients may now schedule a flu shot by appointment only with their primary care physician. Call 863-680-7190 or schedule a non-urgent appointment request online.
In addition to the regular flu vaccine, we also offer the high dose flu vaccine for patients who are 65 years of age or older. For those same patients, we offer the pneumonia vaccine for those who haven't received it. More information on the flu vaccine is available by visiting our website.

Credentialing Department Earns Coveted Recertification
Watson Clinic's credentialing department recently earned a recertification from the National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA). This two-year Certification acknowledges organizations that establish the highest quality standards in their credentialing practices following a rigorous review of policies, filing practices, and quality improvement measures.
Watson Clinic's credentialing department works to verify a physician's qualifications, education record, various licenses, and their ability to perform the services for which they are hired. This assures the community that Watson Clinic retains only the most exceptional medical talents available. Visit our website to read more.
Bartow Office Decks the Local Halls The team from Watson Clinic Bartow recently demonstrated their holiday spirit in association with Bartow's annual Festival of Wreaths program. Evergreen wreaths were made available for local businesses to decorate. The team at Watson Clinic Bartow crafted a special medical supply wreath for their entry, which will be on display at the Polk County History Center through December 13.
The wreaths will be sold via silent auction, with proceeds benefiting the Polk County History Center, located at 100 East Main Street in Bartow.
North Pediatrics Location Achieves Highest Recognition
The National Committee for Quality Assurance (NCQA) has granted Level 3 recognition as a Patient-Centered Medical Home to Watson Clinic's North Pediatrics location. This is the highest honor a medical institution can receive from the non-profit NCQA, a renowned organization devoted to improving healthcare quality across the nation.
To be named a Patient-Centered Medical Home, a medical practice must meet a series of strict criteria based upon a variety of factors, including the establishment of an ongoing, personal relationship between a patient and their provider, delivery of high quality care in an efficient and cost-effective manner, and having the protocols in place to measure performance and consistently work towards improving upon patient outcomes.
