SpecialtySpecialty Spotlight
Gastroenterology

Watson Clinic's gastroenterology department, housed at the Main location, consists of board-certified physicians, an advanced registered nurse practitioner and the latest technological tools to detect, diagnose and treat gastrointestinal disorders.

One such disorder is colorectal cancer. The mortality rate for colorectal cancer would decrease profoundly if everyone followed the appropriate screening guidelines. One of Watson Clinic's missions is to continue to spread that message. As one of the leading causes of cancer related deaths in the U.S., colorectal cancer is also one of the most preventable of cancers. In fact, patients often enjoy an extremely high cure rate when the disease is detected at an early stage.

To find out more about the gastroenterology department, please visit our website or call 863-680-7490 to schedule an appointment.

newdocWatson Clinic Foundation Donates Car for Area's Elderly

The Watson Clinic Foundation recently used their funding to provide a new car to Volunteers in Service to the Elderly (VISTE), a local organization dedicated to providing transportation and additional resources to elderly citizens in our community.

The Foundation's donation of a 2014 Kia Soul will assist the organization in transporting our local elderly population to important medical appointments.

One of the fastest growing populations in our community is the group that's 100 years of age and older. Given those statistics, the role of VISTE is more important than ever before. That's why the Watson Clinic Foundation worked with Regal Automotive to purchase this vehicle, which will allow VISTE to assist the frail and elderly in our community while maintaining their sense of independence and dignity.

Energy Drinks: Is the jolt worth the risk?

Energy drinks and energy shots: They're enjoying a bull market. They make up the fastest growing segment of the beverage industry, thanks largely to teens and young adults.

But even as they've won over the young, these drinks are raising red flags in the medical community. Here's what you need to know before you - or your kids - reach for one of these drinks.

Energy drinks (and energy shots) are nonalcoholic beverages that contain stimulants, most notably caffeine. Other ingredients that often make the list: vitamins, herbal supplements and sweeteners. When cocoa, guarana, kola nut and yerba mate are added, they contribute something manufacturers don't have to list: more caffeine. This means there might be more caffeine in the drinks or shots than the label states.

Watson Clinic Serves as Official Medical Provider

Detroit Tigers Florida Operation and Lakeland Flying Tigers

The fun and excitement of Tigers baseball is back, and Watson Clinic is proud to be the official medical provider of the Detroit Tigers Florida Operation and Lakeland Flying Tigers for what promises to be another sensational season!

Watson Clinic's involvement starts before the season gets under way as a specially assembled team of our doctors, nurses and medical assistants perform comprehensive examinations on every potential major and minor league player throughout February and March. These exams result in the player's medical clearance to play ball. Once the season begins, our Watson Clinic experts, led by team physician Dr. Louis Saco, remain on-call at all times to provide Tiger athletes with any medical service required.

Spring training will draw thousands to Joker Marchant Stadium, where game attendees will enjoy evidence of the unique partnership between Watson Clinic and the Tigers with an article in the Spring Training program, banners on the field, health tips read during each game, and a custom-made commercial that plays on the Tigers jumbotron.

Komen Florida Suncoast Polk Race for the Cure

The Watson Clinic Foundation was honored to be a sponsor of the annual Komen Florida Suncoast Polk Race for the Cure. Hosted at Lakeland's Joker Marchant Stadium, representatives from Watson Clinic joined in the event to help raise funds for breast cancer research, education and awareness.

Watson Clinic Foundation Auxiliary Celebrates 10th Anniversary

In February, the Watson Clinic Foundation Auxiliary hosted their annual Toast to Find a Cure Wine & Cheese Social from the Lakeland Yacht & Country Club. Now in its tenth year, this signature event has thus far raised well over a half a million dollars for local cancer education and outreach efforts.

Headed by area philanthropist and chairperson Linda Logan, the Auxiliary's annual gala includes a gathering of members of the community - all joined together for a common purpose.
