Cheyenne Park Flood Threat

As of Sunday morning, the National Weather Service is predicting a Tuesday crest of 16.5 feet on the Cedar River at Cedar Rapids. This flood looks to be similar to the one we experienced in April 2008. (This was not the big one, which was in June of that year.)

We anticipate that flood waters will enter the small dog yard, the main yard, the parking lot and the entry area. If there is water in the park, please DO NOT use it and let us know so that we may inform others. Once we learn of its official closure we will post the information on our Facebook page. Please check there before heading to Cheyenne.

If Cheyenne does close and the water recedes, please do not begin using it until you are informed it is safe to do so. Flooding can bring debris into the park and cause unsafe conditions for you and your canine.

Finally remember your off-leash park permit enables you to use K9 Acres as well, so please enjoy some time there.

Look here for more information and pictures about the 2008 floods and how Cheyenne was affected.

We may need volunteers to help clean up the park after the flood so watch for our call to action and let volunteer@k9cola.org know you are available to help!

Thanks again for your interest in our dog parks, and we'll look forward to seeing you at the park!

Sincerely,
K9COLA Board of Directors
