K9COLA (Citizens for Off-Leash Areas) has accepted Governor Branstad's Volunteer Iowa: A Call to Service Challenge for 2014. The Governor is challenging individuals to donate 50 hours per year to an organization or organizations of their own choosing. It has been scientifically shown that this minimum number of hours of volunteering promotes physical and emotional health, including lower risk of mortality and increases in academic achievement. Also, more volunteering may help Iowa move from second to first place in the nation in volunteering, a feat we can all be proud of. If that isn't enough, those who complete this challenge with K9COLA will have their names entered in a drawing for free yearly off-leash park passes. The total number of f ree passes will depend on the number of people who complete the challenge.
Certain rules apply, including logging your hours. To log your hours, go to the K9COLA page at United Way's website.
