Recall Testing for Permit Discount

On Saturday, November 2nd we will host recall tests from 11:00 a.m. to 12:00 p.m. at Cheyenne Park. Passing a recall test qualifies your dog for a discount of $5 from its annual permit fee for life. Although not required, it is useful for our volunteers to know in advance if you're planning to attend: email info@k9cola.org. This will be our last recall test session until early spring 2014.

Could your dog pass? The basic idea behind recall testing is that your dog comes when called. Why do we do it? Safety. If an unpleasant incident happens at the dog park, owners calling their dogs limits the number of dogs involved in the incident and its "energy level."

On testing day you will need to check in at the table in the main yard. Tell them your name and your dog's name. The volunteer will give you a number letting you know how far down you are on the list. When the tester calls your number, let her know who you are and describe which dog is yours. When she sees the dog is sufficiently distracted she will ask you to call your dog. If your dog comes you pass.
This test takes place off-leash in the main yard.

Worried that your dog won't get far enough away from you to try calling? No need to be concerned on this count: we have volunteers to help lead your dog away from you so you can call it back. Still have questions about the test or how it works? Email info@k9cola.org.

An Easy Way to Help

Saturday, November 2nd is Clean Up Day at Cheyenne Park, from 11:00 a.m to 2:00 p.m.

We will be doing some work to tidy up the park for winter and remove items that were damaged in flooding. We encourage you to stop out, or better yet, let us know you are coming by emailing volunteer@k9cola.org. We will need all the help we can get, and many hands make light work.

We will be holding recall testing that day; see accompanying article for details.

Thanks very much in advance for any time you're willing to donate that day! We really appreciate the help.
We are grateful for your interest in our dog parks, and look forward to seeing you and your dogs at the parks!

Sincerely,
