Park Cleanup
We will be holding our fall cleanup day at Cheyenne Off-Leash Park on Saturday, October 5 from 9:00 am to 1:00 pm, getting the park ready for winter and cleaning up some of the debris that has been left from the flooding this year. We will also be removing the flower bed in the entry area; it has started to have wood rot. We are looking at replacing this item and are discussing several ideas with the city. Items needed for clean-up are: rakes, shovels, etc. If you are able to help, contact jill@k9cola.org or ken@k9cola.org.

Recall Testing

We will be holding the fall recall testing session and cleanup day at Cheyenne Off-Leash Park on Saturday Oct 5th. If your dog passes the recall test, you can save $5 on your annual permit for the life of the dog.

Here is information about  recall testing. If you are interested in testing, email info@k9cola.org with your full name and your dog's name.

Apple Creek Kennel and Pack Leaders Dog Training Open House
K9COLA Supporters Apple Creek Kennel and Pack Leaders Dog Training are having an open house at their facility (650 51st St, Marion, Iowa) on Saturday, September 14th from 1:00 to 4:00 pm. There are door prizes, facility tours, Apple Creek Kennel's mascot Buddy, and K9COLA will be there answer park questions!

Please RSVP to Jill at volunteer@k9cola.org so we can confirm numbers for food purchases.
Elections

K9COLA holds its board elections in November every year. Up for election this year are the treasurer and fundraising coordinator positions; we need to fill these vacancies. Please contact Marie (info@k9cola.org) for more information.

A Dog Treat Recipe

Here's one where you don't have to keep them cold. And they cost only around $14 to make. Makes two cookie sheets full of bars.

Newf Breakfast Bars

12 c. oatmeal
4 c. whole wheat flour
>8 eggs
3/4 c. oil
2/3 c. honey
1/2 c. molasses
2 c. milk
1 large can solid pack pumpkin (optional)
3 to 4 mashed bananas (optional)

Preheat oven to 325. Grease 2 cookie sheets.

Dump everything into a VERY large bowl. Mix it all together (I use my hands), pat onto greased cookie sheets & bake at 325 for 1 hour. After 1 hour, turn off oven, crack oven door & allow cookies to cool in oven. Break into whatever size you want (mine like LARGE).

These freeze really well. My guys love these, they sit in front of the oven waiting.

From the Chair

All Volunteers and their families (including dogs, of course) are welcome to attend K9COLA's volunteer appreciation picnic on Sunday September 8th. It's at Bever Park, Zoo Hill Pavilion. Beforehand, take a walk around Bever with Sydney and Steve! Plan to meet at 12:15 pm. We will begin eating around 1:00 pm, with games and prizes to follow. RSVP is appreciated, but not necessary. Please email number of people and dogs to volunteer@k9cola.org.

Sincerely, Marie Appel

Thanks again for your interest in our dog parks, and we'll look forward to seeing you at the park!

Sincerely,
