Volunteers Needed
Volunteers are booked for trash collection through May. The June dates  left are 1, 5, 12, 19, 22, 26, 29. Jill will start scheduling for K9 Acres, the new park, in May.  The first day of Farmers Market is full; she will start scheduling that this month as well. Mark your calendars! The dates for K9Splash! 2013 have been finalized. This annual event will be held at Bever Park Pool on August 24th and 25th from 10:30 am to 5 pm. Keep watching the  newsletter, Facebook, and the website for details, because this year's event promises to be the biggest and best yet!

Student Work Day
The cleanup day with Prairie High School students on April 26 went very well! About 20 kids participated. They hauled rock, got all the benches painted, and picked up about 4 bags of trash. All in all, a good work day!

K9 Acres Opens in June!

K9 Acres, the new Cedar Rapids off-leash Dog Park, will open June 8, 2013.

The ribbon cutting will take place at 10:00 am. Recall testing will also be held that day, from 11:00 am to 1:00 pm.

Mt. Vernon Dog Park Benefit

Mount Vernon Dog Park volunteers are all set to hose down, suds up, rinse off, and towel down dogs this weekend to raise funds for improving their park. So bring
your dog when you come to Mount Vernon for Chalk the Walk this weekend! The wash hours are 11:00 am to 2:00 pm both Saturday and Sunday.

Recall: Natura Expands Their Recall

Natura Pet Products issued their original recall on 3/18/13, a first in the history of that brand. Earlier this week on I spoke with a spokesperson from P&G, the company that now owns Natura, about that first recall and asked if they were continuing to produce these products at their plant in Kansas that had produced the recalled product. I was told that yes they were because the affected product happened to isolated runs at the end of 2012 and they were continuing to investigate the cause of the problem, although they were confident it had been isolated to that time frame. That surprised me then, and now this expanded recall has happened even more so. Perhaps in the future they will be more careful and conservative in allowing production to continue until the time that a pathogen problem has been isolated and fixed. Read More
