Volunteers Needed
Our volunteer
coordinator Jill has trash volunteers lined up through March. She is waiting until closer to April to schedule any more in order to see what the weather will be like then. If it is nice, she will be needing mid-week trash volunteers.

But don't wait till then! Volunteers are always needed. See the adjoining article.

Reminder

Be sure to get your 2013 park permit if you haven't already done so.

At the Park
As the ground thaws and freezes, the park could be muddy and there could be hidden ice spots. Be careful! Also, be sure to take water for your dogs.  The water is not on at the park.

Make Dog Treats
Looking for something to do with the kids on these cold winter days? Why not start making and freezing homemade dog treats! It's the perfect way to warm up and it will help ensure K9COLA has plenty to sell come market season!

Kids & Pets: Getting Them to Play Nice
Before our first child came along, our dog was the light of our life. My husband and I let our pup, a full-bred Bichon Frisé, sleep in bed with us; she traveled with us on vacations; she was more human than animal, at least in our doting eyes. Read More

Volunteering in Iowa
Iowa ranks high nationally in volunteering, as recognized by
the National Conference on Citizenship. In 2011, more than 910,000 Iowa volunteers served more than 99 million total hours, which is valued at more than $2.1 billion.

We are grateful for OUR volunteers!

Come to a K9Splash! Meeting

K9Splash!It's that time of year to start planning for K9Splash!, our premier and most publicly visible contribution to the community as well as our best opportunity to raise money for park needs. K9Splash! is of course our dog swim, a two-day event which takes place every year in August.

We are excited to start planning. We aren't scheduling volunteers quite yet, but we wanted to let everyone know that we're holding our first planning meeting on January 30th at 5:30 PM at Ambroz Rec Center on Mt. Vernon Road, on the SE side of town. We're going to make this year's K9Splash! the best yet! But only a handful of people have helped with planning in the past, and we really need some new faces and ideas to keep this great event going. We hope to see you there with your wonderful thoughts and ideas. Thanks again! K9COLA Volunteer Coordinator Jill

SaPaDaPaSo

SaPaDaPaSo is the annual Saint Patrick's Day parade, held every year in Cedar Rapids, rain or shine. Since time immemorial K9COLA has marched in the parade with our dogs dressed in festive Irish costumes. You can imagine how the spectators cheer for the dogs! And for us it's fun and also provides a little exposure for K9COLA and the existence of the dog parks.

We're planning to do it again this year and hope you will participate, and so we wanted to give you a heads up. The date of the event is Sunday, March 17, and the parade starts at 1:00 pm.  For more information, including when and where we meet on that day, see the next newsletter and watch the K9COLA website and our Facebook page.
