Jack and I got to take the stage at the 2013 R&D100
awards on November 7, 2013 in Orlando, FL where we received an R&D100 award for our Model 33 Arsenic in Food and Water Analyzer.
The R&D100 award, sponsored by R&D Magazine, reconizes the  top 100 technologically significant new products each year. This is a link to the updated blog post that I wrote, which also served as the basis for the press release we issued this summer, about winning the R&D100 award. We had the opportunity to participate in the R&DMagazine Industry Roundtable the morning of the award ceremony. Read about the participants of the Industry Roundtable here. My sister, who attended the awards ceremony, was kind enough to take a video while we were on stage. The image and link to the video appear below.

Currently we're planning for the American Chemical Society Spring National Meeting in San Francisco August 10-14, 2014. Jack and I are organizing another Air Monitoring Symposium on the Environmental Chemistry Track, this time titled

California Air Monitoring:

From inception to current trends in the new millennium. We are seeking contributors to address aspects of the following: the  history and evolution of California air monitoring over the past few decades and how California is using new air monitoring methods to meet current standards. Contact me today if you wish to participate since the call for papers opens soon.

Hand-held photoionization detectors

  • The Model 102 is a considerably upgraded replacement for our Model PI101, HW101, DL101, 101N, & IS101; It has enhanced features such as a faster response time, extended range, elimination of any moisture sensitivity, capability of having up to 4 sensors plus a ppb range, and improvements such as a pump & datalogging (see below)
  • The Model 102 Snap-On PID™ Photoionization Analyzer is a single piece, hand-held unit for the measurement of organic and inorganic species that can be ionized by the UV lamp (9.5, 10.6 & 11.7).
  • This includes the choice of one (1) Snap-On Module (9.5, 10.2, 10.6, 11.7 eV lamp), Operator's Manual, and Rechargeable Nickel Metal Hydride Battery.

This newly published book from the American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA), focuses on important portable intstrumentation and methods for rapid field detection and analysis of chemicals. Contributors to this book serve on the AIHA Real-Time Detection Systems Committee including our own, Jack Driscoll, who shared his wisdom on photoionization, specialized dectors and field portable gas chromatography.  To view the Table of Contents, click here. This slide is from a presentation that Jack made at Pittcon
titled Detection of chlorinated hydrocarbons by gas chromatography- photoionization detector. To achieve excellent detection, we used our portable GC and our lab GC configured with an 11.7 eV PID. Access the presentation here.
