Sponsor Your Regional Membership Meeting!

We have added the opportunity to sponsor the Regional Membership Meeting when it comes to your area! These luncheon meetings are free for members to attend and have grown in popularity the past few years, bringing in record numbers. There are eight locations available for sponsorship and each meeting is held 12:00 - 1:00 pm. With a sponsorship, you would receive: logo recognition in the event brochure and all event promotions; your company's description and contact information listed in the meeting agenda; table display in the meeting room to display your products and services; your logo identification as the sponsor will be displayed on screen and at all tables at the meeting; company material can be packaged and placed at all of the seats in the meeting room; and recognition in all of MBI's news correspondence (InsideMBI, FastTrack, Website, Social Media and Construction Update Newspaper). The sponsorship fee for each location is $1,000 and is fully tax-deductible.

Changes to Notice to Bidders Requirements Right Around the Corner
Congratulations to Phil Mercuris on His Retirement!
Do You Have That WOW Factor to Attract Top Talent?
Effective July 1, 2016, there will be three specific ways in which the Notice to Bidders must be posted:
  1. In a relevant contractor plan room service with statewide circulation.
  2. In a relevant construction lead generating service with statewide circulation.
  3. On an internet site sponsored by either a governmental entity or a statewide association that represents the governmental entity.
To assist with these new provisions (specifically 1 and 2), the Construction Update Network wants to provide the governmental entity, or its representative, a way to meet this requirement at no charge, while also providing the assurances of a compliance "paper trail." It is important to note with nearly 2,000 subscribers, the Construction Update Network meets the definition of the relevant contractor plan room service and lead generating service.

Step #1
When a bid letting date has been established and a Notice to Bidders must be issued, we recommend that the governmental entity simply email its Notice to Bidders to the Construction Update Network at mbiplanroom-dsm@mbionline.com

Once the email containing all of the Notice to Bidders information as prescribed in Iowa Code Section 26.7 is received, the Construction Update Network will issue a confirmation-of-receipt email back to the entity issuing the Notice to Bidders. If confirmation is not received within 24 hours, please call 515-288-7339.

Step #2
The very next business day, the Construction Update Network will post the Notice to Bidders for the project in an email to its entire subscriber base. For compliance purposes, that same day the Notice to Bidders document will be emailed to the entity that originally issued the Notice to Bidders. The Construction Update Network will also archive all Notice to Bidders should the documentation be needed at a later date.

The third provision will require some additional work on the behalf of the owner or its representative. In order to comply, the Notice to Bidders will need to be posted in some fashion on the owner's own website (article, announcement, press release, etc.), or the owner can utilize an association that represents the owner. Such groups, depending on the type of public entity, are the Iowa Association of School Boards, Iowa League of Cities or the Iowa State Association of Counties.

On June 16th, MBI and representatives from the industry gathered to thank MBI's safety consultant Phil Mercuris for his 28 years of service to MBI and the safety of the Iowa construction industry.  We want to thank everyone that stopped by to help us celebrate!  CLICK HERE to view the photo gallery from the event.
We all know that different recruitment strategies appeal to different people. When writing a successful job ad there are several things to consider to ensure your ad is effective and attracts the right candidates:

Consider the audience.  Don't use old messaging.  Who are you trying to reach (Baby Boomers, Gen X, Millennials, etc.)?

You should highlight new technologies, innovations, awards and accomplishments.

Provide insight into your organization.  Outline the positives such as longevity, leadership, growth.  This includes giving a brief description, products and services you provide, and why your company is a good place to work.

Offer more than a bulleted list of must haves.  Provide a "day in a life" to offer candidates a realistic preview of your opportunity and how they will fit in.

Outline the skills required for the position. Make sure that you are clear so that your job requirements and job duties are easy to understand.

List the tangible job benefits for the position. This can include salary, insurance, vacation but you can also liven up the ad by including unique tangible benefits. For example, uniforms provided, or cell phone included.
