New WORKSAFE Program Features

In an effort to continuously improve our services to the construction industry, MBI convened a task force of safety personnel last summer to evaluate the services provided through the WORKSAFE program. The group's focus was to improve job site safety by developing a more responsive WORKSAFE program. After a series of meetings, the task force made recommendations that were then presented and approved by the MBI Board of Directors.

New Features of the WORKSAFE Program:
Subcontractor Inclusion Plan - All subcontractors on a WORKSAFE project are eligible to receive 24/7 safety services from MBI throughout the duration of the project and will be included in all of the WORKSAFE correspondence, including the pre-construction safety review and all survey reports.

Special Package Pricing - For optimal safety results, safety professionals recommend additional site visits depending on the duration of the project. For this reason, we have developed a special discounted pricing structure.

Additional Safety Resources - MBI has developed two new online resources:
  • Safety Best Practices - We have assembled a listing of safety best practices on the MBI website. Safety best practices can improve any safety program and have an impact on the bottom line.
  • OSHA Rules & Regulations - OSHA's website on construction regulations is extensive, intricate, hard to understand, and can be difficult to find needed information. MBI developed an easy to read and understand online resource for construction-related OSHA regulations.
We would be happy to explain the benefits that WORKSAFE can bring to your job site. Please don't hesitate to contact Tom Suckow at (515) 657-4384 / tsuckow@mbionline.com.

Silica is one of the most abundant substances on earth. It is most commonly found as sand or Quartz. Silica is ubiquitous on construction sites by virtue of its presence in many commonly used construction materials including: concrete, bricks, rocks, and stones. Construction activities that can generate/spread silica dust include, but may not be limited to: jackhammering, grinding, tuckpointing, milling, rock crushing, drywall finishing, earthmoving, sawing, and drilling.

The Occupational Safety & Health Administration (OSHA) is finalizing a rule that would cut in half the silica exposure limit and require operational control methods that are contrary to safety rules and require the purchase of new, costly and ineffective equipment before mandating the expanded use of respiratory protection. Urge your Congressman to block the rule until OSHA can prove that it is technologically and economically feasible. The process is simple, just CLICK HERE to enter your name.

It is no secret that many commercial construction companies are feeling the pinch of the labor shortage surrounding our industry. It is also no secret that Master Builders of Iowa strives to find solutions to any obstacle standing in the way of our members' success. That being said, in September 2015, MBI teamed up with BirdDogHR to offer our members an industry-specific job board to address this labor force shortage.

MBI.ourcareerpages.com is a free members-only resource where members can post opportunities within their companies. In addition, MBI is investing in the marketing and advertising of the job board to help connect potential employers with job seekers.
