New Law on Distribution of Electronic Contract Documents
Computer Hand

On July 1, 2015, a new law went into effect that prohibits a public owner from adopting a contract document distribution policy that charges for downloads or acquiring a CD. This new law is similar to the Paper Plan Law that was passed in 2010.

Dollar for Dollar - A Scholarship Fundraising Campaign for Future Iowa Constructors

On behalf of the MBI Board of Directors, we are excited to announce the launch of a scholarship fundraising campaign that will enhance the scholarship offerings to future Iowa construction industry leaders and help establish a pipeline of high caliber construction professionals.

The Master Builders of Iowa education and scholarship fund has been supporting students enrolled in construction engineering and construction management curriculums for 65 years. Since 1950, there have been over 300 MBI scholarships awarded to students enrolled in either the Construction Engineering program at Iowa State University or the University of Northern Iowa's Construction Management program. As you will see, this campaign continues the strong tradition of supporting our future leaders.

In addition helping to support construction-based curriculums at Iowa State University and the University of Northern Iowa, this campaign has three very unique components:

  1. For every dollar you contribute, MBI will match that dollar up to a total campaign effort of $500,000.
  2. Each contribution is 100 percent tax-deductible and every dollar will be directed to a scholarship fund.
  3. You may direct all of your contribution to either Iowa State University or the University of Northern Iowa. Also, you may divide the contribution however you would like (i.e. 60% to ISU and 40% to UNI).

The MBI Board of Directors and the Scholarship & Academic Advisory Committee realize the importance of creating a fundraising campaign that will not only have a tremendous impact on the vitality of our Education Fund, but also on our industry for years to come. This is why MBI leaders felt so strongly in the need to match every contribution made by a member company with an equal amount from the Association.

To learn more about the program, please contact Tom Fulcher at 515-657-4395 or tfulcher@mbionline.com. If you would like to make a contribution, CLICK HERE to download the pledge form.

It's Not Too Late to Pull the Trigger on a Sponsorship

There are sponsorship offerings available for MBI's 3rd Annual Sporting Clay Builders' Classic.  As a sponsor, you will be part of a premiere sporting event where you can easily mix business with a whole lot of fun.  There will be two venues from which you can choose to best "target" sponsorship opportunities.  We will be holding our Eastern Iowa event on Wednesday, September 23rd at Highland Hideaway Hunting in Riverside.  The Central Iowa event is the next day on Thursday, September 24th at the New Pioneer Gun Club in Waukee.  Both of these locations will offer great exposure for interested sponsors.

Various levels of sponsorship remain for these events and it is a great way for your company to help support the MBI-PAC!  If you have any questions or need additional information, please do not hesitate to contact Tania Bowman (515-657-4390) or Chad Kleppe (515-657-4382).

The 12th class of MB EYE on the Future has been selected after another year of a long list of applicants.  In recent years, the number of applicants for this program far exceeds the number of participants that we are able to take for the class.  The blind selection committee, comprised of MBI member leaders, take many things into account when they select the class each year and we appreciate their hard work during this process.   We would like to CONGRATULATE the individuals listed below for being chosen for this year's class!  The Class of 2016 will begin meeting in September with a six month program in leadership, presentation skills and an introduction to the Master Builders of Iowa.  Over 180 leaders have been through the increasingly popular program and interest continues to grow each year.  MBI will begin accepting nominations for the next class of MB EYE on the Future in February 2016.
