Nearing the End of Another Successful Leadership Training Season
MBI has concluded two of the four leadership courses held this training season.  MB EYE on the Future and the Leadership Series for Project Managers and Project Supervisors have concluded, and The Leadership Experience and the new Cornerstone Academy will wrap up in the coming months.

A High Performing Leadership Series for Project Managers & Project Supervisors - This leadership training program brings project managers and project supervisors together to address common jobsite issues in an environment designed to focus on leadership and teamwork between two critical positions within a construction team through team building workshops. (Series includes two, two-day sessions.)

Cornerstone Academy - The Cornerstone Academy leadership training series was designed to introduce future construction industry leaders to several critical facets of the construction industry, while provided a wealth of resources and materials for future reference. (Series is held in 2-day sessions over five months.)

MB EYE on the Future - This program focuses on leadership, presentation skills and an introduction to the Master Builders of Iowa. A main component is the 'The Leaders Course'® presented by Ken Bradford, boosting confidence, communication and leadership skills, as well as leading each participant to become a more effective and charismatic leader. (Series is held in 2-day sessions over six months.)

The Leadership Experience

This unique and highly interactive approach to leadership training dives deep into the areas of Communication, Collaboration, Creativity, and Customer Service. (Series is held in 2-day sessions over four months.)

Enrollment numbers for all four of the leadership courses saw increases this year and MBI is looking forward to planning another successful array of offerings for next year.  If you are interested in registering employees for next year's leadership programs, please contact Tom Fulcher at tfulcher@mbionline.com or (515) 657-4395 to get on the registration lists.  Many of the courses are limited to how many seats are available.

MBI Policy Priorities On the Move at the Capitol

dome

This past week saw two of MBI's 2015 policy priorities continue to move through the legislative process.  The House is ready to debate HF 167, which was passed by the House Commerce Committee earlier this week.  This bill, and its Senate companion - SF 122, would prohibit a public owner from assessing a fee for downloads of contract documents.

Another policy priority that saw action this week was HSB 21.  The House Judiciary Committee passed this bill, which would decrease the current 15-year statute of repose to 10 years.  The bill is also ready for House floor debate.

To get an entire run down of things going on at the Iowa Capitol, check out the weekly Legislative Focus.  To be added to the distribution list, please contact Tania Bowman at tbowman@mbionline.com.

Construction Contracts & ADA Accessibility Compliance
Construction contracts usually do not address ADA compliance concerns.  Well thought out and strategic contract negotiations that address and allocate liability for ADA claims is key to mitigating risk and loss.  Join other Master Builders of Iowa member firms at 11:00 am on March 10th for Construction Contracts and ADA Accessibility Compliance, a free 1-hour webinar with Brent Soderstrum of Brown Winick Law Firm.

Carefully drafted contract provisions can address this risk and minimize disputes.  Recent case law has emerged which impacts indemnification and contribution rights in ADA cases.  Brent will be discussing the new and revised ADA compliance requirements for new and remodeled projects.  He will also explain who is covered and offer ideas in regards to drafting construction contracts to protect against noncompliance with ADA requirements.
