The Positive's of "Positive Pay"
Technology has simplified the ability for criminals to create counterfeit checks and false identification that can be used to engage in fraudulent banking activities. As a result, companies must implement practices to protect against check fraud.

How does Positive Pay work?
You create a file containing information for each check that you printed that day, such as check number, date, amount, account payee, etc. Midtown Bank compares the information on the checks received with the information in your file, and if any of the information for any of the checks does not match, the Positive Pay system allows you to make the decision as to whether to pay on that check or flag it as fraud.

Please contact Colleen Conaty, VP Cash Management at 404-969-4406 or cconaty@midtownbank.com if you would like more information about Positive Pay.
New Year's Resolution for your Budget

So you're going to lose 15 pounds, organize your closets and stop biting your fingernails. Great - now how are you going to improve your personal finances in 2014? Read on and resolve to try one, two or a few of these suggestions.

Learn how much you really spend:
Just like diet programs tell participants to write down every bite to find out how much they actually eat on a daily basis, the same basic principle works for your money. For one week, keep tabs on every penny you spend. Having a record of your spending will help you pinpoint your impulse purchases. Using Midtown Bank's Online Banking can help you keep track!

Start an emergency fund: The "experts" say you should have three to six months' of living expenses in savings in case you lose your job, have a medical crisis or the like. But for some, that can seem like such a huge amount that we're discouraged from even starting to save. Put that rule out of your mind for now. Figure out how much you can spare from your budget to sock away every month. It doesn't have to be a lot of money, but it does have to be done regularly.

Set at least one long-term goal: By the end of 2014, what do you want to have accomplished? Maybe you want to be debt-free or to save $5,000 towards your child's college education. How about setting a goal to make two extra mortgage payments over the course of the year? Or start small. Challenge yourself to keep better track of your finances and not incur overdraft fees for the whole year.

Teach your kids how to budget: Let your children be a part of your budgeting process. Introduce them to the ideas of bank accounts and credit cards at age-appropriate intervals. Teach them about savings and debt, maybe by giving them an allowance so they can learn to manage money - and make mistakes - on a small scale, so they don't wind up getting into big money trouble once they get out on their own. Midtown Bank offers Pre-Paid / Reloadable Cards perfect for teaching children about spending, as well as a great way for parents to keep track of where the money is going.

Neighborhood Corner
There is no reason to be bored this Holiday Season! There are so many wonderful places to see and things to do to put you in the Holiday Spirit.

Choose from a variety of Light Shows across the metro area, including the Botanical Gardens, Centennial Olympic Park and Piedmont Park right here in Midtown.

Maybe you are more of the "indoors" entertainment type. There is plenty for you too! Check out some of Atlanta's classic Holiday shows like A Christmas Carol, The Nutcracker Ballet or The Santaland Diaries.

Whatever you do, stay safe and enjoy the Season!

We Volunteer

Making Holiday Wishes Come True

Midtown Bank is excited to be partnering with two great Charitable Organizations this Holiday Season.

Now through Christmas, you can help us decorate our tree by purchasing a star for the Make a Wish Foundation. All proceeds from sales go to Make a Wish to grant the wishes of children with life-threatening medical conditions.

Employees have also donated time, money and gifts to two "adopted" children as part of "Clark's Christmas Kids Toy Drive". Gifts given to Clark's Kids provide a memorable Christmas for children in foster care across Georgia.
