Green Dining Alliance Crawl 
Presented in partnership with the Green Dining Alliance & the City of Maplewood Special Business District 
Tuesday, June 9, 5:00 - 7:30 pm
Taste your way through the nation's 1st Green Dining District! The City of Maplewood Special Business District's designation comes from the Green Dining Alliance (GDA), a restaurant sustainability certification program of St. Louis Earth Day.

The evening will begin with a brief presentation about GDA certification at Schlafly Bottleworks. Attendees will then enjoy a free drink from Schlafly and samples from restaurants within the district via a crawl of several GDA establishments.

Thursday, June 4, 3:30 - 5:00 pm

Mary Institute and Country Day School captures rainwater in a 10,000 gallon storage tank, where it is held before being utilized in plumbing fixtures throughout the school.  

 

This session will begin with an overview of the system and associated resource savings, followed by a discussion of the day-to-day operations/maintenance, construction and cost considerations, and end with a tour showcasing the holding tanks. Integration into curriculum will be touched upon as well.

 

Greening Hamilton Heights
A Sustainable Neighborhood Workshop
Saturday July 18, 9:00 am - 2:30 pm 
Calling USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter Volunteers! Join the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter and Better Family Life for a sustainable neighborhood workshop. Chapter volunteers and Hamilton Heights residents and stakeholders will work together to envision how sustainable strategies, based on LEED for Neighborhood Development, can be implemented in the Hamilton Heights Neighborhood.

Volunteers must be members of the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter. All levels of experience are welcome, though we are seeking expertise in planning and LEED for Neighborhood Development.

Sustainability Institute for P-12 Educators
Empowering Young Citizens for Sustainable Communities 
June 23-25, 2015

PK-12 Educators are invited to the 5th annual Sustainability Institute to discover how you can help empower students to become active, engaged citizens working towards building a sustainable community. 

 

Speakers and hands-on workshops will focus on increasing awareness of sustainability issues, identifying the potential for young students to take responsibility for solutions, and helping educators generate and plan for student participation for sustainable communities.

 

A limited number of scholarships are available for PK-12 Educators.

 

Camp EarthWays
Calling all COOL PLANET kids ages 10 - 13!
July 13 - 17, 9 am - 4 pm
The EarthWays Center of the Missouri Botanical Garden invites cool planet kids ages 10 - 13 to explore the built environment in this week-long day camp! Campers will investigate sustainable building design as they work to design a fantasy green home from the inside out. 

Green Homes Festival

Saturday June 20, 9 am - 4 pm
Help your family live green! Join the EarthWays Center of the Missouri Botanical Garden for a hands-on, day-long festival of learning, playing, and engaging with people of all ages and backgrounds with an interest in sustainable, healthy lifestyles. Volunteer assistance is welcome for Festival preparation & operations.  

Continuing Education Opportunities

Members of the national USGBC can read USGBC+ magazine and take an online quiz to earn 1 GBCI CE hour. 

In addition, the national USGBC is offering a free online webinar on LEED v4. During the Get to Know LEEDv4 live webinar on June 23, attendees will take a tour of the new system, learning how it is different from LEED 2009, the concepts that it is based on, and the tools and resources that support project teams along the way. This webinar is approved for 1 LEED specific (BD+C, O+M, ID+C, ND & Homes) GBCI CE hour.

And save the date for a series of in-person LEED v4 seminars Wednesdays from July 29 - August 26 presented by members of the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter speakers bureau. Each seminar will take place from 12:00 - 1:30 pm and offers 1.5 LEED Specific GBCI CE Hours and 1.5 AIA/CES LU (HSW/DS).

Announcing the 4th Annual Photo Contest!
From Recycling to Upcycling
The USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter's Marketing Committee invites you to participate in the 4th Annual Photo Contest! For the first time, photographers are invited to share images around a theme - from recycling to upcycling. 

The contest will open on July 1 and submissions are due on August 15. Stay tuned for more information on how you can participate! 
Low Interest Energy Loans

The Missouri Department of Economic Development is making $3.5 million in low-interest loans to public schools, public colleges and universities, local governments, public water and wastewater treatment facilities, and public hospitals for energy-efficiency and renewable energy projects in the State of Missouri.

 

Applications are being accepted from April 1 through June 30, for loan amounts between $10,000 and $750,000. The interest rate for this cycle will be 2.5 percent, with a maximum 10-year-repayment.
