Today is Giving Tuesday!

You've survived one day for giving thanks and two days for getting deals, but you might not know that there's a new day in the Holiday Season- a day to give back! Today is Giving Tuesday, a day dedicated to giving.

If you are thinking of making year-end charitable contributions, keep the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter in mind. Founded in 2001, we are much more than a member group or a professional organization. Along with providing valuable education and networking opportunities for members and non-members alike, we support local governments, emerging professionals, community organizations, and the public to continue along the path to sustainability.

Throughout November we shared the stories of our Community Build projects on social media. Check out our Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn or website to read more about the people and communities that have been impacted by these projects.

So today, on Giving Tuesday, we hope you consider supporting our work to provide everyone with access to green buildings and green communities. Visit our website to make a donation.
Forest Park Forever Partners in LEED Community Project

We're excited to announce that Forest Park Forever and the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter will be partnering through the LEED Community Project to certify the Dennis & Judith Jones Visitor and Education Center in Forest Park!

In the LEED Community Project, volunteers work together to green non-profit building operations using the LEED for Existing Buildings: Operations & Maintenance rating system. Volunteers gain valuable LEED project experience and the eligibility to sit for any of the LEED AP exams, and the non-profit gets a healthier, more environmentally and fiscally responsible building.

Interested in participating in the LEED Community Project as a volunteer? Complete the volunteer application and register for our project kickoff meeting!

 An introduction to Greenbuild Nation
Johanna Schweiss, USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter's Volunteer & Outreach Coordinator, reflects on her first trip to Greenbuild.
Emily Andrews discusses the partnership between the USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter and Missouri Interfaith Power and Light at the Greenbuild Chapter Forum.
As a relative newcomer to the USGBC community, my first trip to Greenbuild certainly made an impression.

After a week of meeting fellow Chapter leadership, traversing the enormous exhibit hall, and listening to speakers like LEEDUser manager Tristan Roberts, Community-based Sustainability Star Majora Carter, HUD Secretary Shaun Donovan, and, of course, Hilary Clinton, I left with pages of notes, slightly swollen feet, and a whole lot of inspiration.

After I landed in St. Louis and had a chance to process the experience, there was one message that really stuck with me: now is the time to work together. Now is the time for collaboration. Effective partnerships are the key to really moving toward our goal of transforming the built environment.

And the week highlighted some notable partnerships: at the Chapter level, the Colorado Chapter's partnership with SEED, the Delaware Valley Green Building Council's partnership with YouthBuild, and our own partnership with Missouri Interfaith Power and Light were all showcased as examples. At the national level, USGBC announced its strategic partnership with UL Environment to create Environmental Product Declarations. Overall, the message was clear- it's time to broaden the tent and engage beyond the building community. Because everyone deserves access to green buildings and green communities.

So I'll echo Rick Fedrizzi, USGBC founder and CEO, as I wrap up my reflections here: Join us. Attend an event. Volunteer on a committee. Participate in a community build project. Become a member or a sponsor. Your participation and support are vital as we work to make every building a green building.
