2012 Class of LEED Fellows includes our own

Ralph Bicknese

On October 18, the USGBC announced the 2012 Class of LEED Fellows. The LEED Fellow Program is the most prestigious designation for LEED Professionals. One must have 10 years of green building experience, hold a LEED AP with specialty credential, and be nominated by a peer prior to the portfolio review process. This year, forty-three individuals were acknowledged as LEED Fellows - among them, the USGBC pinpointed one of our own, Ralph Bicknese!

Ralph is a widely respected thought-leader, proponent and practitioner of green design with over 30 years of experience. His advocacy for green design began in his college days and persisted to manifest itself in more than 30 projects seeking certification under the LEED Green Building Rating System and on the Living Learning Center, tied with another as the first building in the world certified under the stringent Living Building Challenge.

Ralph assisted in the founding of the USGBC- Missouri Gateway Chapter and served as our first program committee chair. He went on to chair the Board of Directors and our Government Advocacy Committee. He currently serves on the Green Schools Committee. Ralph is devoted to educating present and future generations across the Midwest about sustainable buildings and communities.

Congratulations to him on this outstanding achievement!

Calling all Emerging Professionals!

We have two enthusiastic volunteers who want to (re)start an Emerging Professionals Task Force within USGBC-Missouri Gateway Chapter. USGBC's Emerging Professionals program aims to connect all generations in the sustainability movement and we're excited to revive this effort locally.

Our Emerging Professionals Task Force will focus on integrating early-career professionals into Chapter leadership and activities through networking events and volunteer opportunities.

Thanks to James Dice and Katie Rietz for their leadership in this effort!

If you're interested in getting involved and serving on the Task Force, please contact us at [email protected].

Shape the Next Version of LEED!

Established in 2000, LEED provides a framework for identifying and implementing practical and measurable green building design, construction, operations and maintenance solutions. Over the past ten years, LEED has rapidly expanded into a global system representing new and existing buildings, neighborhoods and homes with a combined force of over 9.8 billion square feet (836 million square meters) in 135 countries.

The rating system was designed to incorporate a continuous improvement cycle in order to drive innovation and expand its reach across market sectors and geographic boundaries.

LEED v4 is the next version of LEED and YOU have the opportunity to help shape it! No fair complaining if you don't get involved!

The fifth public comment period is open through December 10, 2012. Learn more on the USGBC website

In addition to participating by providing comments and suggestions, you can also be a part of the LEED v4 Beta Program, which will capture feedback and help USGBC refine and enhance the tools, strategies and processes that will be available when the LEED v4 program launches, projected for November 2013.

The LEED v4 beta is open to projects of all market sectors, space types, sizes and locations. Projects selected to participate will receive guided support from LEED technical staff, a beta program toolkit and will be among the first to lead the market in achieving LEED v4 performance levels. Interested? Contact [email protected] for more information.
