ESTATE PLANNING IN THE NEWS:
Live Like a Prince...Don't Die Like One!
By now, you've probably already seen the headlines that Prince didn't leave behind a Will to help his family settle his estate. And while most of us do not have the massive estate as the pop star, the complications are the same: confusion and fighting within the family, delays in access to funds to help maintain the estate until it's settle, letting the default laws of the state determine who inherits your property and who is in charge of overseeing your estate.
Recently, an article by Mark Wingfield outlined some of the most common reasons why people die without a Will with a rebuttal for each. Be sure to share these with your family and friends who are still on the fence:
1. "I'm not going to die." 2. "I don't have enough assets to need a will." 3. "I just don't want to think about it." 4. "I'll do it later, maybe when I'm older." 5. "Having a will won't make a difference."
